Description
OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB:
Repair automobiles, trucks, buses, and other vehicles. Repair and or rebuild virtually any part on the vehicle.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB
I. Must perform requiredPA State Inspections to all FACT vehicles and are registered as such on Authority FACT fleet records.
Must performdiesel, gasoline, electricand/or CNG (as required) engine diagnosis, tune-ups, repairs, and rebuilding.
Must performmanual and automatictransmission diagnosis, repairsand rebuilding (as required).
Must performelectronic (possibly computerized) diagnosis, and as a result,make necessary repairs and/or rebuilds.
Must perform chassis repairs, maintenance, and lubrication.
Must perform preventive maintenance inspections per the manufacturer's recommendations and FACT requirements, and as a result, make any necessary repairs.
Must be certified (Sec. 608 and 609) and perform any air conditioning servicing and repairs.
Must performall brake systems(hydraulic, air, electric, other) repairs. Must be certified, if required.
Must perform all air system diagnosis and repairs.
Must perform any/all routine maintenance functions on all FACT vehicles.
Must perform all work associated with bodywork, painting and repairs.
Must perform fare box maintenance and repairs (manualand/or electronic) as necessary.
Must perform road calls and road testing in all weather conditions, as required.
Must perform cleanliness monitoring of all Authority (company) vehicles.
Must perform any report preparation, as necessary.
Must perform accurate parts and repair record keeping and/or accountability.
Must perform educational updates by attending and satisfactorily completing all necessary training in maintenance functions and/or safe operation of all FACT vehicles, as required.
Must perform all duties required of Class "B" Technician, Class "C' Mechanic, and Class "D" Serviceperson, as required.
Must perform daily VIR slip review and do repairs as necessary.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Directly supervised by the Operations Manager
SUPERVISION GIVEN
Supervises all Class "B" Technicians, Class "C' Mechanics, and Class "D" Servicepersons, as required.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.
Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
ABILITIES
The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).
The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
The ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged.
The ability to detect or tell the differences between sounds that vary in pitch and loudness.
The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.

WORK CONTEXT
Working environment is generally indoors however some duties require going outside in any weather condition typical of the region. Extensive use of hands feeling and grasping tools and equipment. Spends the majority of time standing. Exposure to hazardous chemicals and equipment is involved. Quality of work is extremely important as it is directly related to publicsafety.
QUALIFICATIONS
A high school education or GED and at least five (5) years of applicable experience required. Must maintain a valid, current Class B Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the Air Brake restriction removed and be licensed to perform state vehicle inspections in Pennsylvania. Position is a safety sensitive and subject to substance screening tests as governed by FTA regulations and County policy.
