- Performs a variety of vehicle maintenance to include oil changes, tire changes, and brake replacements.
- Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical problems; removes and repairs engines, transmissions, and differentials; replaces pumps, cylinders, and valves.
- Assists with the general cleaning of the shop, vehicles, and equipment.
- Welds and fabricates metal using a variety of tools and techniques.
- Participates in facilities maintenance and repair work.
- Sets up new vehicles and systems with communications equipment, networking hardware, and safety equipment.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED equivalent AND four (4) years of experience maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing various types of construction related equipment; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of:- Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
- Customer service principles, practices, and etiquette.
- Records maintenance and retention policies and procedures.
- Work safety policies, procedures, practices, and equipment.
- Welding and fabrication methods.
- Electric and computer systems in vehicles.
- Hydraulic, electric, fuel injection and computer systems.
- General uses and functions of various vehicles and equipment used by the City.
Skill in:
- Reading and accurately interpreting repair and operator manuals.
- Operating various tools and equipment.
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting vehicles and equipment.
- Interacting tactfully and professionally with City staff, outside agencies, and the public.
- Organizing and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
- Completing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Analyzing complex issues and implementing appropriate responses.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- A valid Class B Commercial Washington State drivers license is required.
