Job Description
TITLE: Transportation Mechanic
CLASSIFICATION: Classified (Non-Exempt)
PAY GRADE 21: $23.71 to $24.81 (based on education and experience)
REPORTS TO: Transportation Manager and/or Director of Transportation
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Technical degree in Heavy Truck/Diesel preferred.
- ASE School Bus or Heavy Truck certifications or able obtain.
- Two years job experience as a mechanic and/or related field.
- Hold a valid Commercial Driver's License with Passenger, School Bus, and Air Brake endorsements or agree to obtain a license within 60 days of start date.
- Hold a current DOT Physical as required by the State of Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles or agree to obtain a physical within 60 days of start date.
- Hold a valid Standard Certificate issued by the State School Bus Committee or agree to obtain a certificate within 60 days of start date.
- Have knowledge of Indiana State Inspection laws.
- Have computer skills and be able to operate diagnostic programs, access electronic service information, and troubleshoot problems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for all phases of bus repair. (diesel, gasoline and propane)
- Complete all paperwork or data entry that is necessary to keep track of work performed on equipment.
- See that shop area is kept clean and that all safety standards are enforced.
- Evening/weekend service calls when needed (if available).
- Complete and/or update any State requirements regarding Commercial Driver's License.
- Complete and/or update any State requirements regarding Physical forms.
- Attend the Annual State Safety meeting and any other brief meetings for administration and safety instruction.
- Drive route(s), when necessary, and shall keep order and maintain discipline among the children while on the school bus or along the route, being firm but polite, impartial and fair, and shall use every care for the safety of the children.
- Ensure NAFCS buses and service vehicles are in compliance with Federal, State, and Local safety standards.
- Such other related responsibilities that may be assigned by the Manager, Director or Assistant Director of Transportation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
Job Requirements
