Cardinal Joseph Bernardin School, a PK-8 school in Orland Hills, is seeking a lead maintenance worker with solid "handyman" skills to manage the daily operation of our school building.
This person must have a positive attitude and be a willing team player, someone who can effectively communicate with our entire school community, including faculty, staff, parents, students, and visitors.
- Plumbing - faucets, toilets, drains
- Electrical - switches, bulbs
- Carpentry - painting, drywall
- HVAC - thermostats, filters
Other Duties
- Oversee other maintenance/custodial employees
- Evaluate and manage 3rd party contracted services (snow removal, cleaning)
- Schedule and oversee approved vendors for large projects outside of his/her comfort level/ability
- Use computers to enter and access submitted maintenance/repair tickets and communicate as needed
- Perform as- needed maintenance and repair of minor issues within the building
- Schedule and oversee all inspections (fire panel, emergency drills, extinguisher, elevator, for legal compliance
- Clean spills in building, including when someone is sick
- Handle set-ups and tear-downs for school events; tables, chairs, screens
- Open school campus daily
- Upkeep of the school building and grounds
- Point of contact for after-hours building concerns and emergencies
- Help introduce new maintenance/custodial team members to protocol, procedures and equipment
- Other duties as assigned
Professional and Personal Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- General building maintenance experience.
- Basic computer and typing skills
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Regularly climb ladders, including to rooftops
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. (while using proper lifting techniques)
- Occasionally work evening/weekend hours if an event or situation necessitates

This position has an annualized salary range of $40,000.00 -$45,000.00. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on many factors including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
