Maintenance Technician / Machine Operator Job Description This hybrid Maintenance Technician role combines hands-on machine operation with industrial maintenance in a high-volume manufacturing environment. You will operate production equipment, perform changeovers, monitor product quality, and carry out mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical troubleshooting to keep machinery running safely, reliably, and efficiently. Responsibilities Operate, monitor, and adjust production machinery to maintain consistent output, minimize downtime, and ensure product quality meets specifications. Perform line maintenance, A-checks, and routine inspections on a wide range of production equipment. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues on equipment such as rotogravure printing presses, embossing and forming machines, cutting, trimming, and finishing equipment, and CNC-assisted prototyping or tooling equipment. Support machine setups, changeovers, and adjustments to meet varying production requirements and product specifications. Perform preventative maintenance, including lubrication, cleaning, and scheduled equipment inspections to reduce unplanned downtime. Diagnose issues with motors, drives, sensors, pneumatics, bearings, rollers, belts, chains, shafts, and gear systems, and implement effective corrective actions. Identify worn or damaged parts, request replacements, and coordinate with suppliers or internal stakeholders as needed to ensure timely repairs. Maintain accurate maintenance logs, downtime records, and work orders in accordance with established procedures. Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and basic electrical diagrams to support troubleshooting and repair activities. Assist with process improvements, equipment upgrades, and safety enhancements to increase reliability, efficiency, and overall equipment effectiveness. Ensure full compliance with all safety rules and procedures, including proper lockout/tagout and use of required personal protective equipment. Keep work areas clean, organized, and aligned with 5S standards to support a safe and efficient operation. Collaborate with production and maintenance team members to prioritize work, communicate equipment status, and support continuous improvement efforts. Essential Skills Minimum of 3+ years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic, Industrial Technician, or Machine Operator with significant mechanical responsibilities. Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience working with bearings, shafts, rollers, motors, belts, chains, and gear systems. Proven experience operating or maintaining production machinery, printing equipment, packaging lines, or similar industrial systems. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues. Basic electrical troubleshooting skills, including work with sensors, switches, motors, and drives. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and basic electrical diagrams. Proficient and safe use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions under time pressure. Reliable attendance and ability to work assigned shifts with occasional overtime as required. Team-oriented mindset with solid communication skills to collaborate effectively with production and maintenance personnel. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in industrial maintenance, maintenance technician work, or heavy equipment maintenance. Experience as a Maintenance Mechanic, Maintenance Technician, Mechanical Technician, or Industrial Maintenance Mechanic in a manufacturing setting. Familiarity with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial environment. Experience supporting process improvements, equipment upgrades, or safety initiatives. The environment follows strict safety standards, including lockout/tagout procedures and required personal protective equipment, and adheres to 5S principles to maintain clean, organized, and efficient work areas.
