Maintenance Manager Job Description The Maintenance Manager directs and oversees all aspects of equipment maintenance, including equipment design, inspection, repair, and installation. This role leads a team of maintenance professionals, ensuring machinery operates safely and efficiently while meeting production and quality standards. The Maintenance Manager develops and optimizes maintenance processes, manages budgets, and uses data-driven insights to reduce downtime, prevent equipment failures, and support long-term operational reliability. Responsibilities Direct and oversee facilities design, inspection, equipment repair, and installation to ensure safe and reliable operation. Manage, support, and mentor the maintenance team in their daily tasks, providing clear guidance and leadership. Supervise all maintenance procedures and operations, ensuring all machinery and equipment meet working and safety standards. Evaluate and optimize current maintenance processes to improve efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Utilize data analysis and maintenance records to anticipate and prevent future equipment issues and failures. Develop and implement strategies to minimize breakdowns and repairs, including robust preventive maintenance programs and quality checks on machinery, tools, and equipment. Troubleshoot and resolve problem areas in equipment and systems, creating actionable plans for necessary repairs and improvements. Oversee and coordinate repair activities, ensuring timely completion and high-quality workmanship. Train new employees on maintenance procedures, safety practices, and equipment operation. Foster and enforce a safe work environment, prioritizing safety in all maintenance activities and decisions. Conduct employee evaluations to ensure high-quality work, identify development needs, and support performance improvement. Record and track daily progress, maintenance activities, and error reports to maintain accurate documentation and support continuous improvement. Maintain strong vendor relationships, including managing material orders, price negotiations, and service agreements as needed. Plan and develop maintenance budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure project and department milestones are achieved within budget. Manage project scheduling for maintenance and equipment installations to minimize operational disruption. Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations in accordance with state and federal laws and company policies. Essential Skills 5+ years of experience as a Maintenance Manager. Proven experience leading a team of 10 or more mechanics or maintenance technicians. Strong experience in maintenance management and maintenance supervision. Hands-on experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance of industrial equipment. Proficiency with preventive maintenance planning and execution. Experience with project management related to maintenance and equipment installation. Ability to perform effective troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical issues. Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Proven ability to manage maintenance budgets and control costs. Experience with price negotiations and vendor management. Strong safety focus with experience enforcing safety practices and procedures. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent leadership and people management skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in planning and scheduling maintenance operations and projects. Ability to develop and implement strategies to reduce equipment downtime and repair frequency. Strong negotiation skills for managing vendor contracts and material purchases. Ability to analyze maintenance data and error reports to drive continuous improvement. Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical systems in a facilities environment.
