Public Works Seasonal-Maintenance Worker

Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of city property. Help maintain city property, streets, utilities, and any other city property that needs attention under direct supervision. Sweeps, washes, paints, and repairs or replaces city property as directed. Performs custodial work such as required and assigned. Collects and disposes of solid waste from city property; picks up litter from premises. Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various programs, prepares facilities for use. Other duties as assigned. Primary Goals and Objectives: Complete tasks assigned by supervisors. Ensure effective and efficient use of time. Must be at least 16 years of age Any equivalent combination of related education and experience Skill in operation of: Lawn and landscaping equipment, mowers, miscellaneous hand and power tools for maintenance. Ability to: work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; communicate orally and in writing; use equipment and tools properly and safely; understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public. Physical Demands Frequently required to walk and stand for extended periods of time* Ability to frequently lift and or move up to 50 lbs.* May occasionally lift weights up to 100 lbs.* Ability to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, and operate objects, tools and controls* Occasionally will climb, balance, stoop, crouch, kneel and crawl. * Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. * Ability to speak and hear and communicate effectively* Reasonable accommodation may be provided for this position. Work Environment: Frequently works near moving mechanical parts Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions to include frequent exposure to heat or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals. Frequently works in heavy traffic areas and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
