The Skilled Tradesman HVAC is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems across campus facilities. This position ensures safe, reliable, and code-compliant HVAC operations to support the Colleges instructional and operational needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems, including air handlers, split systems, chillers, boilers, and heat pumps
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on HVAC systems and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Perform system diagnostics, including airflow, temperature control, and refrigerant levels
  • Maintain and repair compressors, motors, thermostats, and control systems
  • Perform refrigerant recovery and charging in accordance with EPA guidelines
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC control systems and components
  • Monitor system performance and adjust controls to ensure optimal operation
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Respond to work orders, service requests, and emergency situations in a timely manner
  • Assist with system upgrades, renovations, and equipment installations
  • Coordinate with supervisors, contractors, and vendors on repairs and projects
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and maintenance activities
  • Monitor system performance and recommend improvements as needed
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized condition
  • Assist with training and mentoring maintenance staff as needed
  • Support campus operations and special projects as required
  • Observe all safety regulations, uniform code, and college policies
  • Attend required meetings, training programs, and serve on committees as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED, required .
  • Associate degree in related field, preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of full-time work experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair, required .

SALARY: Compensation is in accordance with the Alabama Community College Systems Salary Schedule E3 ($39,759 - $62,710).
