Maintenance Technician - Canyon County Jail

Job SummaryPerforms semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and service work on county buildings, equipment and utilities; performs related work as required. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. The principal duties of this class are performed in a public building environment, detention facilities and outdoors and may include working on rooftops and in adverse weather conditions and hazards involving the use of power tools and equipment.

Work is performed primarily in the Canyon County Jail, a secure correctional environment requiring consistent adherence to established safety and security protocols.Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Repair

Performs scheduled maintenance, repair, and installation work on electrical, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and plumbing systemsPerforms maintenance, repair, and construction work on county buildings, including remodelsTroubleshoots, repairs, and maintains electrical and plumbing systemsPerforms painting and graffiti removal dutiesPerforms maintenance and repair work on restrooms and facilitiesWelds and fabricate metal structures and systems as neededRepairs and replaces locks

Other Duties:

Performs all work duties and activities following county policies, procedures, and safety practices

All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities:

Building trade skills, including but not limited to, HVAC, plumbing, pneumatic, and electrical systems, welding and fabrication methods and techniques, and hand toolsOperate power equipment, including but not limited to, drills, saws, rivet gun, grinder, and snow removal equipmentMethods, materials, tools and standard practices regarding painting, plumbing, electrical, and construction and repair related to interior and exterior building maintenance, repair, and remodelingKnowledge of applicable electrical, plumbing, and construction codes, Federal (OSHA) regulations and county policies regarding safe work practices relating to use of power tools, ladders and power lifts, and hazardous chemicalsWork cooperatively and constructively with fellow workers and members of the public to provide public service of the highest quality and quantityFollow written and oral instructionsPrepare written reports, including work orders and maintenance logs

Communicate effectively with the public and other employees

Special Qualifications

Valid Idaho Driver's LicenseMust successfully complete a background investigationBecome CPR and First Aid Certified

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED equivalency requiredOne to three years facility maintenance experience is preferredAny equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work may be considered
