The Opportunity
WSF, a division of WSDOT, is currently seeking a skilled Marine Electrician to support the safe and reliable operation of the Washington State Ferry system. This position performs journey-level marine electrical work in support of vessel and terminal maintenance at the Eagle Harbor Maintenance Facility, helping ensure ferry assets remain operational and ready to serve the traveling public. Through preventative maintenance and emergency repair response, this role plays a critical part in maintaining dependable ferry service across Washington State. Working in accordance with Federal, State, and U.S. Coast Guard regulations, this position contributes directly to WSF's mission of providing safe, efficient, and reliable transportation for the communities we serve.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you/the Marine Electrician will:
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues on vessels and terminals using diagnostic tools, drawings, blueprints, technical documents, and AC/DC theory.
- Diagnose and repair AC/DC systems up to 4160 VAC and 900 VDC, including propulsion, steering, lighting, power distribution, alarms, communications, surveillance, cathodic protection, and battery systems.
- Troubleshoot and maintain fiber optic systems, PLCs, software-controlled electronics, HMIs, motors, generators, motor controls, and communicators.
- Perform preventative maintenance for vessels and terminals, including insulation resistance testing and following MPC cards for critical systems.
- Clean and fusion splice fiber optic systems.
- Inspect and maintain electrical motors and DC batteries.
- Complete infrared scanning of electrical equipment.
- Construct new electrical systems by installing distribution equipment, relay/PLC controls, transformers, load centers, circuit breakers, cabling, and rigid/EMT conduit.

Qualifications

- Demonstrated ability to independently perform complex marine or industrial electrical work at the journey level.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, install, and maintain complex AC/DC electrical systems, industrial electrical equipment, motors, controls, PLC-controlled systems, communication systems, and related equipment using sound electrical theory, diagnostic techniques, testing instruments, and specialized tools.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical information including schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, specifications, technical manuals, and related documentation to support maintenance, repair, and installation activities.
- Demonstrated ability to independently analyze problems, exercise sound judgment, prioritize work, adapt to changing operational needs, and implement effective solutions in both routine and emergent situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with coworkers, supervisors, and internal customers while maintaining professionalism, accountability, and productive working relationships in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to recognize workplace hazards, follow established safety practices, and safely perform work in industrial and marine environments, including confined spaces, elevated work areas, energized equipment, and varying environmental conditions.
- Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position, including climbing, lifting, carrying tools and equipment, and working in varying weather and operational conditions.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- Demonstrated familiarity with marine vessel electrical systems, propulsion systems, terminal systems, automated controls, or industrial communication systems.
- Ability to utilize computer-based diagnostic, maintenance management, or drafting software applications.
- Relevant technical certifications, licensure, or specialized training related to industrial, marine, or electrical systems.
