Maintenance Mechanic Job Description This role supports a high-volume metal fabrication facility by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing advanced fabrication equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production operations. The Maintenance Mechanic performs both preventative and reactive maintenance on a wide range of machinery, collaborates closely with production teams, and helps optimize equipment performance across the plant. Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance on fabrication equipment to reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment life. Conduct reactive maintenance and repairs on production machinery to quickly resolve issues and restore operation. Maintain and service Amada press brakes and turret punch presses, ensuring they operate to production standards. Support and repair Cincinnati machines used in metal fabrication operations. Troubleshoot and maintain robotic welding systems to support consistent weld quality and throughput. Service and repair Bystronic laser cutters, including mechanical, electrical, and control-related issues. Diagnose and repair mechanical systems, including pumps, motors, and related drive components. Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues on production equipment, including 3-phase power systems. Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues involving pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Inspect, replace, and calibrate sensor systems, ensuring accurate feedback and reliable machine operation. Maintain and service nitrogen systems used for laser cutting, including pressure leveling and system checks. Support machine setup activities to ensure equipment is properly configured for production requirements. Verify that equipment operates within defined production standards and quality requirements. Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to diagnose equipment problems and plan repairs. Perform PLC troubleshooting as needed to identify control-related faults and support equipment uptime. Document maintenance activities and communicate equipment status to production and engineering teams. Work closely with production staff to minimize downtime and improve overall equipment uptime. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring issues and recommending corrective actions. Follow safety procedures and best practices when working around heavy machinery and production equipment. Essential Skills Previous maintenance experience in a steel manufacturing or metal fabrication environment. Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Hands-on experience working with laser cutters, press brakes, and turret machines. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics to diagnose equipment issues independently. Experience replacing components such as sensors, pumps, and motors. Proficiency in preventive maintenance and maintenance repair activities. Skill in electrical troubleshooting, including 3-phase power and motor systems. Experience with PLC troubleshooting to support equipment diagnostics. Mechanical aptitude for working with complex fabrication machinery and systems. Ability to troubleshoot and service sensor systems, including sensory testing and calibration. Competence in working with pneumatics and hydraulics in an industrial environment. Experience with equipment maintenance in a fast-paced fabrication or manufacturing setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience maintaining and repairing Amada press brakes and turret punch presses. Experience working with Cincinnati machines in a metal fabrication environment. Background in supporting robotic welding systems and advanced fabrication equipment. Familiarity with Bystronic laser cutters and associated support systems. Comfort interpreting schematics for both mechanical and electrical systems. Exposure to nitrogen systems used for laser cutting, including pressure leveling and system maintenance. Experience working within ISO-certified or quality-focused production environments. Understanding of fabrication processes and end-to-end manufacturing operations. Strong communication skills to collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple maintenance tasks.
