Assembly Mechanic Job Description The Assembly Mechanic assembles, aligns, and tests piping systems and related mechanical components in accordance with engineering specifications and technical drawings. This role uses a variety of hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment to build industrial skids and associated systems safely, accurately, and efficiently while maintaining detailed documentation and adhering to all safety procedures. Responsibilities Assemble and align piping systems, supports, valves, and control components according to engineering specifications and drawings. Build and assemble 12-foot industrial skids and associated mechanical systems to precise measurements and tolerances. Use hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment safely and effectively to complete mechanical assembly tasks. Interpret and follow technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to lay out, fit, and assemble piping and mechanical systems with accuracy. Perform pneumatic and hydrostatic pressure tests on piping systems and components to verify integrity and performance. Inspect assembled systems for leaks, defects, or nonconformances and take corrective action as required. Install components and perform functional testing to ensure systems operate according to design and quality standards. Maintain accurate documentation, including QA/QC checklists, material usage records, and test results, in accordance with internal procedures. Follow all safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), and compliance with lockout/tagout protocols. Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards to support a safe and efficient workflow. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to resolve assembly issues and improve processes. Apply strong problem-solving skills to identify root causes of assembly or testing issues and implement data-based solutions. Essential Skills Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics accurately. Mechanical assembly experience, including assembling piping systems and mechanical components. General knowledge of piping materials, mechanical components, and basic hand and power tools. Demonstrated ability to perform assembly, installation, and testing of mechanical and piping systems. Strong verbal and written communication skills to follow instructions, document work, and collaborate with team members. High attention to detail with the ability to assemble systems to precise measurements and tolerances. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound, data-based decisions during assembly and testing. Physical stamina, including the ability to stand for long periods, bend, stretch, and lift up to 50 pounds. Commitment to following safety procedures, including PPE use, SOPs, and lockout/tagout protocols. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience reading technical drawings and assembling piping systems (preferred). Plumbing or pipefitting experience (preferred). Experience performing pneumatic or hydrostatic testing (preferred). Familiarity with flow shop procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs) (preferred). Previous experience assembling industrial skids or similar mechanical systems is beneficial. Work Environment This role operates in an industrial shop environment with a regular schedule of Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You will work around mechanical and piping systems, industrial skids, and related equipment, using hand tools, power tools, and specialized testing equipment. The position requires standing for extended periods, bending, stretching, and lifting up to 50 pounds while working in a structured flow shop setting that follows established SOPs and safety protocols. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, and the work area is maintained in a clean, organized, and hazard-free condition to support safe and efficient operations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Henrico, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
