CNC Maintenance Technician Job Description The CNC Maintenance Technician develops, programs, and maintains computer numerical control (CNC) machines to produce precision sheet metal parts and components. This role analyzes engineering drawings, selects appropriate tools and machining parameters, and ensures optimal operation of Trumpf press brakes, punch presses, and laser cutting systems. The technician troubleshoots machine and programming issues, performs setup and calibration, and upholds quality standards to meet production deadlines while collaborating closely with manufacturing, maintenance, and engineering teams to improve processes and ensure efficient, accurate, and safe machining operations. Responsibilities Program, set up, and optimize CNC programs for press brake, punch, and laser machines, with a focus on Trumpf CNC equipment. Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to determine machining requirements and parameters. Develop efficient nesting and tooling strategies to maximize material usage and minimize waste. Perform machine setup and calibration to ensure accurate and repeatable production. Troubleshoot programming and machine-related issues, including electrical and mechanical problems, to minimize downtime. Conduct preventive maintenance on CNC machines and related equipment to maintain reliable operation. Repair and adjust CNC machines and components as needed to restore optimal performance. Collaborate with production and engineering teams to improve machining processes and workflow efficiency. Work closely with maintenance and engineering teams to troubleshoot complex issues and implement process improvements. Ensure all parts meet quality standards and that production deadlines are consistently achieved. Maintain organized documentation of CNC programs, revisions, and setup information. Maintain accurate production records and reports related to machine performance and output. Follow established safety procedures and contribute to a safe and orderly work area. Perform other duties as assigned to support production and maintenance goals. Essential Skills Hands-on experience as a CNC technician or CNC maintenance technician. Proficiency with CNC programming, setup, and optimization for press brake, punch, and laser machines. Trumpf CNC experience, including operation and setup of Trumpf press brakes, punch presses, and laser cutting systems. Strong electrical troubleshooting skills for CNC machinery and related equipment. Mechanical aptitude for diagnosing and repairing CNC machine components. Experience performing preventive maintenance on CNC machines. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions accurately. Ability to develop efficient nesting and tooling strategies for sheet metal fabrication. Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot programming and machine-related issues. Work Environment This role is based in a non-climate-controlled production and PC shop environment, working directly around CNC equipment and sheet metal fabrication machinery. The position follows a first-shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, providing a consistent four-day workweek. You will spend most of your time on the shop floor, interacting with machines, tools, and production personnel in a hands-on, industrial setting.
