Mechanical Assembler Job Description This role focuses on assembling skid-mounted pump packages in a manufacturing environment, working closely with lead mechanics to build, align, and install rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, motors, and related components. You will use blueprints, drawings, and a variety of hand and power tools to perform precise mechanical assembly, drilling, tapping, wiring, and alignment tasks on pump-mounted skids. Responsibilities Assemble skid-mounted pump packages according to blueprints, drawings, and written instructions. Use hand and power tools to drill, tap, bolt, and fasten components securely on pump-mounted skids. Perform pump alignments and bolt up shafts to ensure proper fit and function of rotating equipment. Mount compressors, motors, and related components on skids and verify proper installation. Read and interpret blueprints and measuring devices, including tape measures and levels, to ensure accurate assembly. Assist lead mechanics with mechanical assembly tasks, including setting up workstations and handling tools and materials. Wire equipment as needed to complete skid-mounted pump packages in accordance with specifications. Support shop operations by cleaning work areas, organizing tools, and maintaining a safe and orderly workspace. Work at various stations within the shop to mount pumps and compressors on skids, adapting to different assembly tasks as required. Follow all safety procedures while working around fabrication, welding, assembly equipment, forklifts, and overhead cranes. Collaborate with team members to meet production schedules and adjust to increased workloads, including extended shifts and occasional weekends. Essential Skills At least 2 years of assembly or technician experience in a mechanical or related environment. Proficiency in using tape measures and levels to perform accurate measurements and alignments. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and basic mechanical schematics. Skilled in using hand tools and power tools, including drills, wrenches, and other common mechanical tools. Experience with mechanical assembly of pumps, compressors, motors, or other rotating equipment. Ability to perform drilling and tapping operations safely and accurately. Capability to wire equipment as part of skid-mounted package assembly. Competence in using a measuring tape and understanding standard measurement units. Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment with fabrication, welding, and assembly activities. Strong willingness to learn and follow direction from lead mechanics and supervisors. Clear verbal communication skills in English to follow instructions and collaborate with the team. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience assembling skid-mounted pump packages or similar mechanical skids. Hands-on experience working with rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, and motors. Familiarity with using basic personal hand tools, including wrenches (for example, 3 1/4-inch wrenches). Comfort working around forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment in a shop environment. Ability to adapt to varying workloads, including occasional extended shifts and weekend work. Strong work ethic, reliability, and a positive attitude toward continuous learning and skill development. Work Environment This position is based in a manufacturing facility where fabrication, welding, and mechanical assembly occur in a clean but non-climate-controlled shop. You will work at different workstations mounting pumps and compressors on skids, alongside areas where assembly and welding are performed. The facility is equipped with forklifts, overhead cranes, and various assembly tools and equipment to support production. The role follows a day shift schedule, typically 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with standard 8-hour shifts. As workload increases, you may work 10-hour shifts from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with Saturdays or additional weekend hours as needed. The current average workload is approximately 45 hours per week. Work attire should be appropriate for a manufacturing and shop environment, suitable for working around fabrication, welding, and rotating equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Katy, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
