Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, technical drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements. Measure, cut, and shape sheet metal using hand tools, power tools, and machinery such as shears, brakes, and presses. Weld, solder, and rivet seams and joints to assemble ductwork and ensure airtight, structurally sound connections. Inspect and test completed ductwork to verify conformance with specifications, building codes, and project standards. Perform maintenance and repair work on existing HVAC ductwork systems, identifying and correcting defects or performance issues. Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, workplace procedures, and company policies while performing tasks. Collaborate with other team members, trades, and contractors to coordinate work and complete projects on time and within budget. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in safe, clean, and organized condition. Troubleshoot fabrication or installation issues and recommend practical solutions to improve quality and efficiency. Essential Skills Proven experience as a sheet metal fabricator and welder, particularly in HVAC ductwork fabrication and installation. Strong proficiency in sheet metal work, including measuring, cutting, forming, and assembling duct systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, sketches, and specifications accurately. Hands-on experience with hand tools, power tools, and sheet metal machinery such as shears, brakes, and presses. Proficiency in welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and arc welding, for sheet metal applications. Experience with soldering and riveting to create secure and airtight duct connections. Solid understanding of HVAC sheet metal systems, including commercial duct installation and layout. Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication techniques, materials, and industry best practices. Excellent attention to detail and precision to ensure high-quality workmanship and adherence to specifications. Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials, work in various positions, and perform tasks in different site conditions. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot fabrication and installation challenges. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Vocational or technical training in sheet metal fabrication and welding is preferred. Experience working on HVAC commercial projects is highly beneficial. Certification in welding, such as AWS Certified Welder, is a plus. OSHA safety training or similar safety certifications are an advantage. Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and adherence to safety standards. Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with coworkers and contractors.
