CNC Machinist Job Description This role offers the opportunity to work as a CNC Machinist on both day and overnight shifts, producing precision components for the aerospace and medical industries. You will perform complex machining operations, take on a variety of tasks across the facility, and collaborate closely with the engineering team to ensure high-quality output and efficient production. Responsibilities Set up CNC mills or lathes, including Swiss machinery, to run production jobs according to specifications. Run CNC machines to produce small to medium-sized aerospace, medical, and related components while maintaining tight tolerances. Troubleshoot machinery issues during production to minimize downtime and ensure consistent quality. Hold very tight tolerances, including working within thousandths of an inch, and adjust machines as needed to maintain accuracy. Perform inspections on all products using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measurement tools. Work with aluminum, stainless steel, and other materials as required by customer and production demands. Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time, including production records and inspection documentation. Maintain safety regulations and follow all shop procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Report defective materials, processes, or equipment issues promptly and assist in resolving them. Communicate consistently and effectively with the engineering team and other departments to address technical issues and improve processes. Perform light program edits and zero out machines as needed to meet job specifications. Adapt to changing customer demands and production priorities while maintaining a high standard of quality. Wear multiple hats in the facility by supporting various tasks related to machining, setup, inspection, and process improvement. Essential Skills Minimum of 2+ years of experience running and setting up CNC mills or lathes. Hands-on experience with CNC machining in a production environment serving aerospace, medical, or similar precision industries. Proficiency in running and setting up CNC mills or lathes, with Swiss machinery experience considered a strong advantage. Demonstrated ability to work with very tight tolerances, including +/- thousandths of an inch. Experience troubleshooting CNC machinery during setup and production. Ability to work with aluminum and stainless steel materials. Proficiency using micrometers, calipers, and other precision inspection tools. Experience performing inspections on machined components to verify dimensional accuracy and quality. Ability to perform light program edits and zero out a machine. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineering and production teams. Ability to handle complex work and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced shop environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Swiss CNC machinery. Experience in aerospace, medical, robotics, or related precision manufacturing industries. Familiarity with ITAR-controlled work environments. Comfort working with a variety of small to medium-sized precision components. Work Environment The facility is one of the larger and more versatile CNC shops in Western Massachusetts, employing over 200 people and supporting a mix of aerospace, medical, and robotics projects. The work environment is extremely clean and well lit, with some shop areas louder and others quieter depending on the equipment in use. CNC mills, lathes, and Swiss machinery are core technologies, and you will regularly use precision tools such as micrometers and calipers. Day shift hours are 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and overnight shift hours are 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday.
