PUSD Classification Salary Range: $25.78 - $33.01 per hour Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $25.78 per hour (Step 1) - $29.90 per hour (Step 4) Candidates who pass all of the examination processes are ranked on an eligibility list according to their score(s). Selection for the position will be made from among the top three (3) ranks of candidates. The eligibility list will be used for hiring purposes in other vacancies in the same, or equivalent, job classification and will be active for six (6) months (Merit Rule 50.100.1). The current vacancy is 8 hours per day, 12 months per year, located at the Facilities, Maintenance, & Operations (FMO) Department. BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, perform semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, construction, and repair work on school buildings, sites, and equipment. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Maintenance Worker - The Maintenance Worker classification is a stand-alone classification perform ing semi-skilled to skilled duties either in a single trade or in several trades typically under the immediate direction of a journ ey-level skilled tradesperson. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Service air conditioning-heating equipment; repair, clean, and recondition equipment; replace belts, filters, and other components as needed. E Repair or fabricate articles and structures of wood or related materials, such as doors, partitions, counters, and furniture; repair and replace hardware; repair floors, walls, ceilings, and windows; repair and install locks and security devices. E Install and repair electrical wiring and fixtures; repair and replace plugs and cords, outlets and switches; install and repair small equipment and lighting as directed. E Perform general plumbing repairs; replace faucets, fixtures, washers, and gaskets; remove drain and line obstructions; cut, thread, and assemble pipe; maintain lines, valves, fittings, ball cocks, and other plumbing fixtures; assist in performing excavation and identifying the source of leaks. E Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding, filling, and priming; apply paint or other protective or decorative material on a variety of surfaces; remove or paint over graffiti; assemble and move scaffolding and platforms. E Estimate time, material, and supply needs to complete assigned jobs; monitor inventory levels of materials and supplies; assist in ordering materials and supplies as directed. E Repair fencing, gates, rubberized surfaces, and playground equipment. E Perform welding duties as directed. E Perform routine inspections of facilities and grounds; repair other items as required at school sites to provide for a safe and efficient environment report hazards to appropriate personnel. E Communicate with other staff, faculty, administrators, and outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues of maintenance, repairs, safety, and other maintenance related issues. E Use a variety of hand and power tools; maintain tools in proper working condition; clean brushes, tools, and other equipment; drive a vehicle to conduct work. E Respond to emergency maintenance issues as required, including broken locks, vandalism, water leaks, and other issues. E Apply asphalt cold patch and concrete material for the purpose of repairing parking lots, campus spaces, and installing and maintaining fences. E Maintain routine records related to assigned activities. E Participate in ongoing training and staff development. Perform related duties as assigned. At the end of some of the duty statements, there is an " E" which identifies essential duties required of the classification. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school (or equivalent) and three years of experience in general maintenance, building, and construction work with demonstrated skill in a specific trade area. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California Class C driver's license. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Basic tools, equipment, terms, and practices used in building maintenance and repair work. Methods, equipment, and materials used in maintenance work. Various maintenance trades and related equipment operation. Work hazards and common job safety precautions. Operation and maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment used in maintenance. Basic recordkeeping techniques. Oral and written communication skills. Computer and mobile device operations. Health and safety regulations. Proper lifting techniques. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. ABILITY TO: Perform maintenance work at the semi-skilled to skilled level for a specific trade. Operate hand and power tools and other equipment used in maintenance work. Operate vehicles safely. Use basic tools skillfully and safely. Work from sketches, drawings, and blueprints. Maintain routine records related to assigned activities. Perform minor maintenance and repairs on maintenance equipment. Understand and follow multi-step oral and written instructions. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Prioritize work load effectively. Meet schedules and timelines. Make independent decisions or judgments. Perform tasks with consistency and accuracy meeting precise standards. Maintain routine records related to work performed. Operate a computer and mobile devices. Work independently and with little supervision. Observe health and safety regulations. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Perform heavy physical labor. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Outdoor work environment. Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions. Driving a vehicle to conduct work. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling heavy objects as assigned by the position. Kneeling or crouching to repair floors. Seeing to perform repairs. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a keyboard/keypad and a variety of tools and equipment. Bending at the waist, kneeling, stooping, twisting, or crouching. Kneeling for extended periods of time. Standing for extended periods of time for inspections and repairs. Walking or standing for extended periods of time. Reaching overhead, horizontally, and below the shoulders. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling moderately heavy objects (50 lbs.) as needed for the position. Heavy physical labor. Work on uneven or unimproved ground and slippery surfaces. Sufficient hearing and seeing in order to safely perform the duties of the position. Climbing in and out of maintenance equipment. HAZARDS: Exposure to chemicals and solvents. Exposure to fumes, dust, odors, oil/grease, gases. Working around and with machinery having moving parts. Exposure to noise and vibration. Climbing ladders and working from heights to repair roofs and ceilings.
