Transportation Mechanic
Purpose: Diagnose, adjust, and repair district vehicles, including school buses.
Reports to: Director of Transportation
Pay Rate: Based upon experience
Terms of Employment: 12 months, as needed
Qualifications:
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid CDL License with required endorsements or be willing to attain.
- Meet all State requirements for Bus Drivers, including Defensive Driving and First Aid Certification or be willing to meet.
Experience:
- Complete required physical exam for Bus Drivers and 20 hours behind the wheel training.
- Experience in school transportation preferred.
- Knowledge of equipment used in bus maintenance.
- Ability to plan and manage projects.
- ASE Bus Mechanic Certification preferred.
General Expectations:

Specific Responsibilities:
- Diagnose potential vehicle malfunctions for the purpose of determining needed vehicle repairs and/or replacements.
- Inspects buses and transportation equipment for the purpose of ensuring it is in a safe operating condition.
- Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in a safe operating condition.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Service bus and transportation equipment and perform scheduled preventative maintenance.
- Substitutes for bus drivers when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director and Administration.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions
- Level 4 – Heavy Work
- Exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25-50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly.
- Extended periods of sitting and/or standing.
- Must be able to adapt to a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment.
- Must drive automobile.
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing, frequent stooping, bending, reaching, kneeling, crawling, turning, climbing and balancing.
- Must work indoors and outdoors, and in noisy and crowded environments year-round.
- Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
