Job Details:
SUMMARY
Service or repair commercial and industrial heating and air conditioning systems. This position is responsible for delivering field labor tasking procedures to execute planned service inspections, repair services, and equipment installations, and to provide emergency service coverage. The candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills with a minimum of 3 years experience in HVAC mechanic work, including installation and maintenance.
Essential Duties:
- Diagnose, maintain, repair, replace, and start up HVAC systems, including commercial refrigeration units such as coolers, freezers, and kitchen equipment.
- Troubleshoot system issues, including locating and repairing refrigerant leaks, and resolving electrical or mechanical failures using schematics and technical documentation.
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to support installation, maintenance, and repair activities.
- Perform work on plant utility systems, including compressed air and water systems (chilled water, hot water, city water, and glycol systems).
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with applicable local, state, federal, and organizational safety and trade regulations.
- Operate tools, equipment, and machinery safely, including working with or around hazardous materials, at heights, and in confined spaces.
- Maintain a strong commitment to safety by following all PPE requirements, safety protocols, and safe work practices while remaining alert at all times.
- Utilize strong analytical skills and attention to detail to accurately diagnose issues, complete repairs, and document work performed.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while managing time effectively to complete tasks correctly and efficiently.
- Communicate effectively and collaborate with team members across departments to support operational goals.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality as essential job requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Safety Sensitive:
This position is designated as a safety sensitive position because it includes as part of the job duties operating a motor vehicle, the operating, maintaining, and monitoring of heavy equipment and machinery, and working with and around hazardous materials, at heights, and in confined spaces. This position is one in which a lapse of attention could result in injury, illness, or death. For the safety of the employee and others, the employee must be able to work in a constant state of alertness and concentrate for long periods of time while operating, maintaining, and monitoring heavy equipment and machinery, and while working with and around hazardous materials, at heights, and in confined spaces.
REQUIREMENTS :
- Education : 1 year of industrial maintenance experience education preferred (I.E. possess industrial maintenance diploma or currently enrolled in technical school) in lieu of experience; Certification and experience as RETA Operator 1 required; Certification as RETA Operator 2 and 3 preferred.
- Experience : 5 (+) years of industrial ammonia refrigeration experience or equivalent experience required. Ability to perform refrigerant recovery and reclamation in compliance with regulations. Technical training or experience in refrigeration systems through trade school, military, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Computer Skills : Basic computer skills will be necessary to log information, to process daily work orders and to complete required documentation. Ability to learn and utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Communication Skills : The ability to communicate effectively and basic math skills are necessary to perform this job at a satisfactory level
- Other : Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs. occasionally. Ability to stand on hard surface for up to 12 hours per day. Ability to work in confined and tall spaces, walk, climb, utilize a ladder, operate a lift, bend and stoop. Repetitive gripping, pushing and pulling. Frequent overhead work. Temperatures inside plant may vary from -25 degrees to over 100 degrees; outside work may be also be needed. Basic math skills; percentages, fractions and measurements. Knowledge of Industrial Maintenance including Pneumatics, PLCs, Motor controls, and shop equipment operation desired.
- Must provide and maintain required personal tools for the position.
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions (heat, cold, wet, etc.) and move throughout different areas of the plant as needed.
- Willingness and availability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and non-standard shifts as required.
PREFERRED :
- Universal EPA Certification
- Strong knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems and HVAC/refrigeration components.
- Working knowledge of primary (boilers, chillers, heat exchangers, cooling towers) and secondary (AHUs, pumps, fan coils, water-source heat pumps) HVAC systems, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and installation.
