Steam Plant Mechanic - Facilities Services - UTK

The role of the Steam Plant Mechanic is to work under the supervision of senior mechanics to perform inspections and repairs on boilers and associated equipment, pumps, turbines, compressors, and other auxiliary equipment in the steam plant.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Repair boilers, pumps, compressors, turbines, and other related equipment
  • Repair and maintain the operating condition of industrial production or processing machinery/equipment
  • Clean, lubricate, or adjust parts, equipment, or machinery.
  • Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs
  • Go inside of the boilers to inspect equipment and perform preventive maintenance
  • Responsible for operating a forklift, painting, and cleaning
QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Experience: Must have mechanical knowledge and between 1-3 years related experience
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of welders and cutting torches and other related tools needed in the steam plant

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Related vocational or technical training
  • Experience: Must have mechanical knowledge and 5 years related experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Ability to weld - mig welding and stick welding
    • Ability to use a torch and plasma cutter
    • Ability to fabricate metal
    • Ability to read blueprints
    • Ability to operate a forklift, use power tools, hand tools
    • Ability to work in confined spaces and work off ladders

UT Facilities Services is responsible for the care and keeping of more than 300 facilities and utilities systems in and around Knoxville. As the University of Tennessee Knoxvilles largest non-academic department, team members are responsible for facilities maintenance and repair, custodial needs, landscaping and lawncare, utility work, in-house and capital construction projects, facilities planning and design, environmental initiatives, pest control, campus event services, and facilities administration functions for both the flagship campus and the agricultural institute. The Facilities Services staff provides around-the-clock coverage to ensure students, staff, faculty, and fans have a consistent and positive experience every time they step foot on Rocky Top.
