Position Objective:
Under minimal supervision, performs duties as assigned relative to general upkeep of correctional facilities. Work assignments are performed in accordance with accepted practices. Employees resolve most problems independently, except for work of an unusual nature, in which a supervisor may be consulted. Essential Functions:
  • Perform general repair tasks such as replacing worn parts, drywall repair and painting, carpentry repairs and installation with hand and power tools, unplugging P-traps and toilets. Will repair or replace plumbing fixtures, and replace electrical switches and outlets.
  • Install locking system (e.g. doors, door hardware, closures, panic hardware, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe and operating condition.
  • Perform a wide range of landscape maintenance duties, including irrigation system operation and maintenance.
  • Operate County vehicles, snow and grounds equipment and is responsible for its safe operation and performs maintenance as needed. Keep shops, vehicles and yard areas neat and clean.
  • Perform surplus FF&E handling, minor office moves, material handling, deliveries, and special event setups.
  • Assemble, install and move furniture, fixtures and equipment.
  • Perform assigned routine preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Complete assigned work order requests in a timely and competent manner.
  • Respond to emergencies and closures including adverse weather to ensure that all facilities are protected and remain operational.
  • Escort contractors in secure facilities.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise good judgement when determining if necessary work requires specialty skills.
  • Purchase materials and supplies in conformance with County purchasing policies, prepare purchase orders and related paperwork.
  • Maintain tools and maintenance equipment used in completion of duties. Report equipment issues or needs to supervisor.
  • Operate equipment such as lawn mower, skid loader, tractor, backhoe, electric power lifts, forklift, pick-up and trailer, dump truck, or similar equipment.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices and follow safety and county policies and procedures at all times.
  • Meet with facility occupants to define work requirements.
  • Perform entire work activities as per established safety and secured procedures.
  • Participate in On Call for a week at a time on a 24-hour basis. The schedule is on a rotating basis between other maintenance staff as assigned.
  • Responsible for the removal of snow and maintenance of sidewalks, entrances, parking lots and driveways as necessary in assigned areas.
  • Performing semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and repair involving general building related trades work; using and maintaining hand and power tools normally associated with carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical work.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
  • Maintain compliance with all County policies and procedures.
Education and/or Experience :
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Minimum eight months experience as B&G Maintenance Technician 2- or four-years prior experience in basic building maintenance and repairs.
  • Valid Drivers license
  • Qualification in specialty area may be required for additional duty.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential position functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Upper body strength is a requisite to lift, transport, position, put, install, remove a maximum of 50 lbs. unassisted; and lift, transport, position, put, install, remove a maximum of 80 lbs. with assistance.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively on telephone, in-person and in writing.

Working Environment:
  • Work under minimal supervision, with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.
  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor field environments; travel from site to site; exposure to all types of weather and temperature conditions.
  • Work environment is informal; team-oriented, having both routine and variable task with variable pace and pressure.
  • Overtime hours may be required to meet operational requirements and project deadlines.
  • Some travel may be required for training and meetings.
  • Monday - Friday 2:30 PM - 11 PM
