The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for assisting with the overall maintenance, repair, and appearance of the nursing home facility. This position helps ensure a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for residents, visitors, and staff by performing routine maintenance tasks, repairs, and preventative maintenance activities.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssist with routine maintenance and repair of facility equipment, systems, and building structures.
Perform minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and drywall repairs as needed.
Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and report any safety hazards or repair needs.
Maintain facility grounds, including snow removal, landscaping, and trash removal as assigned.
Assist in maintaining heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as requested.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and facility safety regulations.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests from residents and staff.
Maintain maintenance logs, work orders, and records as required.
Participate in emergency preparedness activities and respond to facility emergencies when necessary.
Assist with room preparation for admissions, transfers, and discharges.
Maintain tools and equipment in good working order.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Director or Administrator.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous maintenance, building services, or healthcare facility experience preferred.
Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems.
Ability to safely operate maintenance tools and equipment.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Exposure to cleaning chemicals, maintenance equipment, and various environmental conditions.
May be required to work weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed.
