In this hands-on role, you'll help maintain and improve County buildings, grounds, and mechanical systems that support essential public services. From performing routine repairs and preventive maintenance to supporting seasonal groundskeeping and facility operations, your work will have a direct impact on the safety, comfort, and functionality of County facilities.

As a Facilities Maintenance Technician I, you will:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repair of County buildings, equipment, and grounds.
  • Assist with HVAC, boiler, plumbing, refrigeration, and mechanical system maintenance.
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks to help ensure facility reliability and efficiency.
  • Perform painting, carpentry, minor masonry, and general building repairs.
  • Maintain County grounds through mowing, trimming, landscaping, and seasonal cleanup.
  • Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, entrances, parking lots, and other public areas.
  • Support building security through key control, facility access, and security hardware maintenance.
  • Assist with inventory management, freight handling, and equipment maintenance.
  • Respond to maintenance emergencies and support operational readiness throughout County facilities.
  • Work collaboratively with coworkers, contractors, vendors, and building occupants to provide excellent customer service.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must possess a valid State of Wisconsin driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance, mechanical systems, plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, groundskeeping, or related trades.
  • Ability to safely operate maintenance tools, equipment, and machinery.
  • Ability to read and follow technical instructions, diagrams, maintenance schedules, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, bending, kneeling, and working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to successfully complete required background checks and pre-employment screenings.
