Our client is looking to bring on a Powder Coater/Fabrication Assembler. Our client is a manufacturer of aftermarket, OEM, and custom tanks for various vehicles including school buses, semi-trucks, fire trucks, and construction vehicles. They provide a wide range of products including diesel fuel tanks, hydraulic tanks, and custom-made tanks.
This position is responsible for applying powder coat finishes to metal fabrications and assembling fuel tank weldments to engineering specifications.
Job Duties:
- Prepare metal surfaces for powder coating including cleaning, degreasing, masking, and pre-treatment to ensure proper adhesion
- Apply powder coat material using electrostatic spray equipment in accordance with established procedures and quality standards
- Monitor and maintain cure oven temperatures and dwell times to achieve specified film thickness and finish quality
- Measure and document dry film thickness using calibrated gauges to verify compliance with job specifications
- Inspect finished parts for surface defects, runs, holidays, or adhesion failures and perform touch-up or rework as needed
- Maintain powder coating equipment including spray guns, booths, and ovens in clean and proper working condition
- Mix, manage, and rotate powder inventory; minimize waste and document usage
- Assemble fuel tank weldments and related components per engineering drawings and work instructions using basic hand tools
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, bills of materials, and assembly specifications
- Verify dimensions and fitment of assembled components; report non-conformances to supervisor
- Install fittings, plugs, brackets, and hardware to print specifications
- Perform basic quality checks and complete inspection records as required
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience in powder coating, painting, or industrial finishing preferred
- Previous experience in metal fabrication, welding, or manufacturing environment preferred
- Familiarity with film thickness gauges and basic quality inspection tools preferred
- Knowledge of powder coat pre-treatment processes (iron phosphate, zirconium, or similar) preferred
- Experience reading and interpreting weld symbols and GD&T basics a plus
- Ability to read basic engineering drawings and work instructions
- Proficiency with common hand tools (wrenches, ratchets, torque wrenches, screwdrivers)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and stand for extended periods
- Comfortable working in an industrial environment with exposure to heat, dust, and chemical odors
