Job Description

This role focuses on low-voltage cable installation within a commercial construction environment, supporting a long-term project at a hospital facility in Chattanooga, TN. You will install and route Cat5 and Cat6 cabling, perform terminations, and use a variety of hand and power tools to ensure high-quality, reliable network infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Install and route low-voltage cabling, including Cat5 and Cat6, in a commercial construction environment.

  • Pull cable through pathways, ceilings, walls, and other building structures while maintaining proper cable management and organization.

  • Terminate cable ends with RJ45 connectors and other required terminations, ensuring clean, accurate, and reliable connections.

  • Follow cable pathways and installation plans to ensure adherence to project specifications and industry standards.

  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to cut, strip, crimp, and secure cables and related components.

  • Assist with basic fiber and low-voltage cable handling as needed, following guidance and best practices.

  • Read and interpret blueprints or construction drawings when available to understand cable routes and installation requirements.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and materials are properly stored and accounted for.

  • Collaborate with other trades and team members on-site to coordinate installation activities and meet project timelines.

  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment throughout the workday.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience installing low-voltage cabling, including Cat5 and Cat6.

  • Proficiency in pulling, routing, and securing network cabling in commercial construction environments.

  • Ability to terminate RJ45 connectors and perform cable terminations accurately and reliably.

  • Ability to use hand tools such as wire cutters, cable strippers, crimping tools, snips, needle-nose pliers, adjustable wrenches or channel locks, nut drivers, and screwdrivers (Phillips and flathead).

  • Ability to use basic power tools safely for cable installation tasks.

  • Familiarity with cable pathways, cable management, and general cabling best practices.

  • Reliability and punctuality to work a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from early morning to mid-afternoon.

  • Commitment to following safety protocols and using required personal protective equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with fiber cable installation or handling is a strong plus.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints or construction drawings is a significant advantage.

  • Previous experience working in commercial construction environments.

  • Strong attention to detail and quality in cable routing and terminations.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team on active construction sites.

Work Environment

This position is based on a commercial construction site in Chattanooga, TN, specifically within a hospital setting. The schedule runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., including a one-hour lunch break. You will work in an active construction environment that requires regular use of hand and power tools and adherence to strict safety standards. The dress code includes jeans, a polo shirt, and required personal protective equipment, including an ANSI Type 2 hard hat and other PPE as needed. The work involves being on your feet, navigating a construction site, and working in and around ceilings, walls, and other building structures to install and route cabling.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chattanooga, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr.
