The Role
As a Hydraulic Cylinder Mechanic, you will be responsible for the teardown, inspection, repair, reassembly, and testing of various hydraulic cylinders and related fluid power components. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, a understanding of hydraulics, and a commitment to producing high-quality work in a safe environment.
Key Responsibilities
Disassembly & Inspection: Safely tear down hydraulic cylinders of varying sizes. Clean components and inspect for wear, scoring, or damage.
Diagnosis & Troubleshooting: Identify the root cause of cylinder failure and determine the necessary scope of repair.
Precision Measurement: Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to check tolerances on rods, tubes, and pistons.
Repair & Rebuilding: Replace seals, repack glands, polish or hone cylinder tubes, and replace damaged rods or eyes.
Assembly & Testing: Reassemble cylinders to factory specifications and perform rigorous high-pressure testing to ensure zero leaks and proper functionality.
Documentation: Accurately document the condition of parts, the repairs performed, and the parts used for work orders and customer records.
Safety & Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Perform routine maintenance on shop equipment.
Requirements & Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a mechanical field, repairing and rebuilding hydraulic cylinders or heavy equipment maintenance is a plus.
Technical Skills: Understanding of hydraulic schematics, fluid dynamics, and sealing technologies a plus.
Tool Proficiency: Experience with hand tools, power tools, hydraulic torque wrenches, and precision measuring instruments.
Physical Ability: Ability to safely lift up to [e.g., 50 lbs], stand for extended periods, and perform physically demanding tasks in a shop environment.
