Serves as Crew Leader on the Row Clearing Crew, performing various duties related to highway maintenance. Assists the Crew Foreman with compiling daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports and documentation, and trains subordinates in the operation of various maintenance equipment. Operates heavy motorized equipment such as, but not limited to, combination backhoe, dozer, crawler, excavator, front end loader, lowboy truck, motor grader, road patcher, truck mounted slope mower, and tractor with ditcher. Instructs crew members daily in safety practices, including but not limited to flagging operations, PPE, vehicle safety, CDL inspections, hazardous materials, and waste management. Assists with crew operations by entering daily work into HMMS, assigning daily tasks and crew assignments, assisting with the compilation of daily, weekly, and annual reports and documentation, and training subordinates in the operation of various maintenance equipment. Assists with on call operations for after-hours emergencies and other emergency and inclement weather operations, including the Snow and Ice Plan and Hurricane Lane Reversal Plan. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operators license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis. Works overtime as necessary.
