Facilities Maintenance Technician Full-time | $27-$30/hr | City of Saco

The City of Saco is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs across City buildings. This role works independently under the general direction of the Facilities Director and Deputy Director.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform building maintenance including minor plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry repairs.
  • Monitor and service systems such as heating, ventilation, emergency lighting, and fire extinguishers.
  • Oversee contractors and ensure compliance with maintenance schedules.
  • Set up rooms for meetings and events across multiple locations.
  • Assist visitors and support general building operations.
  • Perform seasonal tasks including snow removal.
  • Handle special waste and maintain safety records
  • Installs and maintains holiday decorations as directed by Facilities Manager.
  • Support custodial tasks and other projects as assigned.

Position Requirements

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting and masonry repairs.
  • Good interpersonal skills: the ability to deal effectively with the public and department employees.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Understanding of federal, state and local codes.
  • The ability to complete several tasks in decentralized areas.
  • The ability to recognize need for repairs and prioritize work to be done.
  • The ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • The ability to follow manufactures guidelines in working with hazardous chemical in a safe manner.
  • Basic computer skills including the use of programs such as email and internet browsers, as well as maintenance software with training available.
  • Must have a clean record and be able to achieve CJIS certification.
  • Current State of Maine Criminal History Records check approval (CHRC).
  • Valid Maine State Driver's license.
  • Basic knowledge of how to safely lift and carry objects.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

An ideal candidate for this position must have a High School diploma or equivalent. Building maintenance technology or trade school experience preferred. One to three years prior experience in a business setting performing maintenance and cleaning work; including semi-skilled building maintenance or construction is required.

Successful completion of training related to HVAC systems, process controls, general building maintenance within 6 months of hire.

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED:

Equipment operated may include power and hand tools, tractors and snowblowers, ladders, and cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaner, buffers, and carpet cleaners) computer, and smart phone.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with limitations to perform the essential functions. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 60lbs. This position requires full range of body motion, to include bending at waist and full use of all extremities and back muscles.
