The person in this key position aids in the oversight of the building, grounds, and general facilities maintenance and upkeep and also helps with custodial duties and event set ups on a daily basis and throughout the year. The position is also responsible for building upkeep projects and maintenance that require contracting, coordination, and monitoring of the outside contractors and vendors. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of all physical aspects of the campus, promoting a safe and conducive learning environment for both students and staff.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThis position has significant authority and oversight responsibilities in four primary areas:Facilities management and planning with in house staff, outside contractors, and vendorsCoordinate and assist with daily custodial activities including lunch setup and teardownCompliance with legal and certification/ requirements related to building and groundsOversee compliance of Fire and Health Code in conjunction with Director of Security and SafetyPerform necessary maintenance tasks for most all issues. Issues not resolved in house will require coordination and oversight with outside contractors or vendorsAs such, the person in the position is expected to: Negotiate vendor rates and pursue purchasing affiliations to assure best prices.Coordinate and carry out the needed work to resolve all maintenance issues. Oversee outside contractors and determine when an outside contractor is needed. Coordinate contractors for service or projects and monitor progress and work. Obtain bids for larger scale projects and work with CFO to decide the best contractor for the job or projectEstablish a schedule of daily, weekly, and monthly activities both during times when school is in session and also what tasks need addressed during school breaks and over the summer break. This includes custodial and maintenance. Ensure Facility is clean throughout the school day.Assure all facilities are maintained in compliance with all safety and building standards; develop long term facility and equipment maintenance and replacement plans as needed; be on-call for facility emergencies.Oversee various inspectors/inspections, assure follow up on any cited areas and complete and submit all related reports in an accurate and timely fashion; assure continual compliance of facility with all safety standards and respond promptly to any surprise inspections.Participate in all facility event planning for daily and after hours events for setups, custodial, and outside vendors and contractors and assure communications regarding the same..Complete other duties as assigned and needed to assure smooth operations.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelors Degree preferred with at least five (5) years' prior experience in a maintenance and custodial positionESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESCurrent knowledge of school safety and facility requirements or ability to quickly learn them upon hireKnowledge of best practices in facilities management (prior school facility management experience preferred) Possess an understanding and basic skills in electrical, heating/cooling systems,ventilation, and plumbing, and a basic knowledge of safety codes and regulations.Knowledge of best practices in school purchasing (prior experience with school purchasing systems within Ohio is preferred)Ability to work within a traditional orthodox Jewish environmentExcellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to read, write and speak English Demonstrated ability to be self directed -- position requires reliability, consistency, leadership, ability to make and implement decisions, and good follow-throughDemonstrated ability to know when information is confidential and to maintain strict confidentialityMust have a valid Ohio Drivers License for occasional local travelMust be technologically competent at a moderate level with computers, telecommunication devices, and other office equipment and be able to inspire others to use technology creatively to enhance efficiency in managing administrative and programmatic functionsMust be able to pass a rigorous background check to work within a school settingMust be able to work effectively with many people both internally and externallyMust have proficiency in basic computer communication platforms including Google mail, calendar, documents, and spreadsheetsTYPICAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS OF POSITIONPosition is housed in a routine office environment located within a school and is subject to a high volume of interruptions and facilities manager must be able to respond appropriatelyWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear, and reach with hands and arms and work with custodial and maintenance equipment as related to the task at handAbility to lift and carry routine supplies and equipment generally not exceeding 20 pounds Must be available to work extended hours on occasion to accommodate special eventsPosition requires occasional out of office travel as related to purchasing and maintenanceAble to travel independently within the building and the communityMust use independent judgment to make decisions when addressing complex issues with co-workers, parents, students, and volunteers.Communicate orally with a broad range of people in face-to-face and group settingsMaintain a professional demeanor in the face of sometimes stressful circumstancesLICENSES/CERTIFICATIONSNone required
