SUMMARY: This position performs a wide variety of general and skilled maintenance duties for City streets, stormwater systems, and other public works infrastructure. This position responds to emergency call out situations as required; performs manual labor, operates construction equipment, completes data entry, and documents maintenance activities. Must be able to work in a safe manner and adhere to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting, and monitoring as outlined by City safety policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Performs a variety of street maintenance tasks involving the repair, maintenance and construction of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, streets, shoulders, pavement, and related facilities. This includes pothole repairs, crack sealing, and removal & replacement of asphalt and/or concrete.
- Performs general right-of-way maintenance tasks, including removal of debris and litter from roads, pedestrian walkways, and public areas; as well as assisting with other field services such as tree trimming, graffiti removal, and traffic control for construction operations, special events and emergencies.
- Assists in repair and maintenance of catch basins, storm drains, and channels to allow for proper drainage and in compliance with stormwater regulations.
- Assists in maintenance of utility infrastructure for other divisions, including wastewater & irrigation pipelines, valves, and other appurtenances.
- Assist in removal and installation of street signs or traffic striping and painting.
- Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in street maintenance and repair. Performs routine inspection on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment. Adheres to safe work practices while working on, in and/or around vehicles, equipment and jobsites.
- Must communicate respectfully with a positive attitude towards the public, co-workers and supervisors.
- Assist other City Divisions and perform other duties of similar nature or level as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Employee may perform other related duties as assigned to meet the on-going needs of the department.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Ability to successfully pass a pre- employment drug screen.
Job Requirements: Must have a current Colorado Driver’s License and be at least 18 years of age. Must also pass pre-employment drug screening. Must be able to obtain Colorado Class a Commercial Driver License and a Colorado Class 1 Wastewater Collection License within 6 months of hire.
Experience: No experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic knowledge of Public Works functions and operation.
Basic knowledge of Public Works equipment operation and maintenance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Phsical: Visual acuity, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs. Standing and walking each 50% of the time.
Environment: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. The worker may be exposed to the following conditions:
- Exposure to a variety of temperatures including extreme heat and cold.
- High noise levels requiring personal protection equipment and cause the worker to shout to be heard above the noise level.
- Subject to vibration, oscillating movements of the extremities or the whole body.4.
- Exposure to a variety of hazardous fumes, chemicals, orders, dust and gases or poor ventilation.5.
- Subject to moving mechanical parts, vehicular traffic, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places.6.
- Subject to working on scaffolding, ladders, and high places.
- Subject to working in confined spaces.
