Position Summary:

This full-time position with Marathon County's Facilities & Capital Management Department that is responsible for performing skilled maintenance duties at county facilities and North Central Health Care. Work may include building and grounds maintenance, snow removal, and occasional custodial duties. The work shift is Monday - Friday, with participation in an on-call rotation.

Examples of Work Performed:

The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoots mechanical and computerized equipment, including fire protection systems, video surveillance/security systems, lighting control, and emergency power systems.

  • Perform preventive maintenance or repairs on HVAC equipment such as filter changes, replacing belts, bearings, impellers, motors, shafts, and cleaning coils.

  • May perform preventive maintenance repairs on medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, beds, patient lifts, vital machines, nurse call systems, and wander guard/RTLS systems.

  • May assist in maintaining boilers and disassembling them for inspection; may perform boiler operation and maintenance tasks such as adding chemical solutions, removing scale from internal parts, blowing down boilers, and similar work.

  • Use plans and blueprints to maintain and repair buildings, equipment, and other facilities.

  • May layout and build interior walls; hang and finish drywall, install doors, frames, suspended ceilings, tile, carpet, floor tile, and cabinetry. Assembles, configures, and moves workstations. May do concrete repair and rubber roof repair.

  • Install and repair electrical and mechanical door hardware; troubleshoots and repairs card access systems, detention security devices, locking mechanisms, overhead garage doors, and closers.

  • Perform plumbing work such as repairing leaking faucets and valves, drinking fountains, fixtures, water heaters, showers, unclogging sinks and commodes, and similar work.

  • Perform electrical work such as replacing light switches and receptacles, changing ballasts, lighting fixtures, service wires, wiring of small motors, and related items; installs, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical service; installs AC-DC circuits, adding equipment, control circuits, circuit breakers, conduit, voice, and data wiring.

  • Paint walls, doors, frames, ceilings, baseboards, furniture, windows, etc.

  • Perform maintenance tasks in secure areas throughout County buildings including the Jail, Juvenile Detention Facility, District Attorney's Office, Sheriff's Department, and North Central Health Care.

  • Operate snow removal equipment.

  • Operate small hand tools and other equipment in a safe manner to accomplish tasks.

  • Develop solutions to work issues that add value for our customers.

  • Participate in establishing professional development goals that are supportive of broader County goals.

  • Perform related work as required.

  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of building maintenance trades and methods.

  • Knowledge of proper safety precautions and procedures in all facets of maintenance.

  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools.

  • Ability to recognize equipment in need of maintenance.

  • Ability to perform moderately heavy manual work.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to read blueprints.

  • Ability to perform routine and moderately complex operations without close supervision.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and the public.

  • Ability to think independently and make decisions based on established policies, procedures, and precedents and recognize when to seek out higher level decisions on those policies, procedures, and precedents.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, departments, agencies, and the public.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow required HPPA regulations.

  • Understands the County's and department's mission, core values, plans, and priorities for the future.

  • Ability to contribute to a positive work culture that fosters excellent customer service and teamwork.

Qualifications:

High school graduation or equivalent and 3 years related building and/or grounds maintenance experience preferred; OR any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Also required is a driver's license and a driving record that meets County standards.

The Facilities & Capital Management Department may consider candidates with less than 3 years of experience at a lower starting pay rate and allow them to participate in an apprenticeship program.

Compensation:

Starting rate of pay: $21.53/hour plus county benefits!
