Tyto Athene is searching for a Junior Cable Technician to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Junior Cable Technician installs, routes, and terminates structured cabling systems to support USSOUTHCOMs communication and network infrastructure. Under the supervision of senior technicians or engineers, this role involves working with copper and fiber optic cabling in compliance with industry standards and providing hands-on support in structured cabling installations in data centers, office buildings, and secure government facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Assists in pulling and labeling fiber optic and copper cabling while adhering to industry standards and operational requirements
- Performs basic troubleshooting and maintenance to support network reliability and performance
- Supports security measures to protect cabling infrastructure while maintaining scalability and interoperability
- Works under the guidance of senior technicians and engineers to integrate new technologies and resolve technical issues
- Conducts routine cable inspections, system assessments, and inventory management to support maintenance and compliance efforts
- Responds to Tier 1 service requests, assisting with cable repairs, installations, and testing
- Supports infrastructure projects by preparing materials, organizing tools, and executing basic installation tasks
- Assists in stress testing and validating cabling infrastructure for operational readiness
- Collaborates with service desks and network teams to maintain enterprise connectivity and mission support.
Required:
- Highschool diploma or equivalent
- 0-3 years of experience in cable installation or related field
- Basic understanding of copper and fiber optic cabling
- Ability to use basic hand tools and testing equipment
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined spaces or on ladders
- Willingness to travel locally or regionally depending on project needs
Desired:
- Associates degree in related field
- Entry-level BICSI certification (e.g., Installer 1)
- Familiarity with cable testers like Fluke or NetScout
- Exposure to DoD or federal IT environments
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification
- Experience with cable labeling and documentation tools
Clearance:
- Secret clearance required with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
