Mechanic Technician II

The City of Virginia Beach Public Works Fleet Management division is looking to hire a Mechanic Technician II to work at our Landstown Annex location on Dam Neck Road.

The incumbent will perform the following duties:

• Maintenance on light duty, medium duty, and heavy-duty vehicles such as oil changes, lubrication, safety checks, and battery checks.

• Repairs such as minor/major tune-ups, replacing water pumps, hydraulic lines and hoses, and hydraulic trailer brakes.

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical systems and electric over hydraulic controls.

• Repair de-watering pumps and diesel engines; perform hydraulic system repairs including hydrostatic.

• Repairs of heavy-duty hydraulic brakes, air brakes (for 25-ton off-road dump trucks), wet-line brakes, and Rockwell Q-Type brakes.

• Service/repair Allison transmissions.

• Heavy duty vehicle/equipment related maintenance.

• State Inspections if licensed

• This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical.

This position is designated ALPHA I and the chosen individual may be required to work in emergency events and inclement weather.

CDL Hiring Bonus: Newly hired employees with a valid Class A or B CDL will be eligible for a $2000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment:

• $500 with first paycheck
• $500 first pay period following six-month interim evaluation (with "meets expectation" performance rating)
• $1,000 at conclusion of probationary period (with "meets expectation" performance rating)

Please Note: This position requires the incumbent obtain a valid 609 Refrigerant Recovery Certification and Commercial Driver's License within the first year of employment (the probationary period).
