Preventative Maintenance Technician

The Preventative Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the proper operation of machinery and equipment by performing preventative maintenance tasks. The primary objective is to uphold safety standards, promote equipment efficiency, and minimize the risk of operational failures.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the accessibility of safety equipment, the installation of safety guards, and adherence to manufacturer specifications to prevent workplace injuries and promote a safe working environment.
  • Receive and execute verbal instructions from supervisors and the Maintenance Department regarding assigned duties.
  • Lubricate machine components, change filters, inspect belts, and maintain drive assemblies according to preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Notify supervisors of necessary repairs or replacement parts to maintain machines in a safe and optimal operating condition.
  • Report any obstacles hindering the proper execution of preventative maintenance tasks, such as broken parts or inaccessible filters, to supervisors or the Maintenance Department.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Communicate any unusual conditions encountered during job performance to relevant personnel.
  • Assist in other tasks of similar or lower complexity when required.
  • Maintain accurate records of performed preventative maintenance on each machine.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to move machinery and equipment weighing over 50 pounds by pushing and pulling.
  • Proficiency in identifying potential mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic failures.
  • Competence in using designated hand tools such as wrenches, grease guns, drills, and knives.
  • Capability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Basic writing skills for the completion of daily production records.
  • Basic verbal communication skills for transferring and interpreting instructions and work assignments.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical diagrams related to hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.
  • Good mechanical comprehension for diagnosing and predicting potential machinery failures.

Equipment: The role involves using various machinery in the manufacturing area, as well as hand and power tools, and personal protective equipment, including safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.

Environment/Surroundings: The work environment may involve high noise levels, requiring the use of earplugs, which can sometimes make verbal communication difficult. The area is not air-conditioned and features concrete flooring. Responsibilities may require excessive walking and standing across designated areas within the plant.

Testing: Candidates may be required to undergo testing to assess their mechanical aptitude and technical reading skills, specifically in the areas of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical diagrams.

Schedule

  • Shift hours may vary in the evenings, ranging from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm—Monday-Friday, with an occasional weekend shift as needed.
