Diesel Mechanic**

**Job Description**

The Diesel Mechanic role involves repairing and maintaining heavy-duty vehicles, particularly those used in waste collection. This position requires diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

**Responsibilities**

+ Diagnosis and Repair: Identify and address mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on waste collection vehicles.

+ Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, fluid checks, and tire rotations.

+ Vehicle Inspection: Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles to identify potential problems.

+ Documentation: Document repairs, parts usage, and repair times using fleet maintenance software.

+ Safety Compliance: Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety regulations and procedures.

**Essential Skills**

+ Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of diesel engine systems.

+ Ability to troubleshoot and repair various vehicle systems.

+ Problem-solving skills to diagnose and solve mechanical and electrical issues.

+ Physical stamina for performing physically demanding tasks.

+ Effective communication skills with drivers and other mechanics.

+ Proficiency in using fleet maintenance software.

+ Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent, along with formal training in diesel mechanics or a related field.

+ Minimum of 2 years experience as a diesel mechanic or technician.

**Additional Skills & Qualifications**

+ Experience in electronics diagnostics, hydraulics, and pneumatics.

+ MACK experience is a plus.

+ Minimum of 2 years experience in oil and filter changes, electrical systems, brakes, transmission, and engine repairs.

**Work Environment**

The work environment is primarily in-shop, with core hours from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm, and occasional Saturdays scheduled. This setting is equipped with the necessary tools and technologies to perform your duties effectively.

**Job Type & Location**

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waltersburg, Pennsylvania.

**Pay and Benefits**

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
