The current vacancy is in the Athletic/Sports Field Maintenance Assignment; however, this recruitment will also be used to establish an eligible list to fill possible future vacancies in all assignments.

Parks Maintenance Worker Is perform skilled parks, baseball stadium facilities, or sports/athletic field maintenance and repair work related to one of three City program areas. Employees in this class may also provide lead directions and training for Parks Maintenance Assistants, temporary agency workers, and/or volunteers. This class performs related duties as required.

Athletic/Sports Field Maintenance Assignment: Employees assigned to athletic/sports field maintenance perform construction, maintenance, repair, field game preparation, and related service activities for the City's athletic fields; including a variety of tasks in general trades and/or skilled maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction of facilities, fixtures, irrigation systems, and recreational equipment at City recreational areas.

Parks and Basins Maintenance Assignment: Employees assigned to parks and basin maintenance perform construction, maintenance, repair, and related service activities for the City's park and basins; including a variety of tasks in general trades and/or skilled maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction of facilities, fixtures, irrigation systems, and recreational equipment at City parks and other recreational areas.

Riverview, Hohokam, and Fitch Park Maintenance Assignment: Employees assigned to Riverview, Hohokam Stadium and Fitch Training Complex facilities perform construction, maintenance, repair, athletic field game preps, and related service activities for the City's park, stadium facilities, and athletic fields; including a variety of tasks in general trades and/or skilled maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction of landscaping, facilities, fixtures, irrigation systems, and park and athletic training equipment.

This classification is distinguished from the next lower level, Parks Maintenance Assistant, by the advanced skill level and independence exercised by the Parks Maintenance Worker I. The Parks Maintenance Worker I is distinguished from the Parks Maintenance Worker II class by the latter having greater technical knowledge and expertise of the functions performed. Workload, time, and staff available for training require that employees have some familiarity with the work; and have the ability to work independently on routine recurring assignments. Employees are required to use appropriate safety procedures and equipment in completing assigned duties. Depending on assignment, supervision is received from a Parks and Community Facilities Maintenance Foreman or Parks Maintenance Leader who reviews work through observation, conferences, reports, and spot-checking of results achieved. A Parks Maintenance Worker I works flexible hours (depending on weather), may be subject to yearly rotational stand-by duty, and 24-hour call-out; working evenings, early mornings, and weekend shifts. This class is FLSA nonexempt.

Minimum Qualifications Required. Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED. Good (1 - 3 years) experience in the care and maintenance of one of the following areas relative to the assignment: park or stadium facilities; turf and grounds maintenance at athletic/sports or baseball fields, parks, and basins; or similar experience.
Special Requirements. Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date.

Preferred/Desirable Qualifications. Experience in two or more trades is highly desirable. Centralized irrigation control system programming and maintenance experience. Baseball, softball, and muti-use field preparation and maintenance experience. Experience entering work outcomes in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
