Maintenance Worker 1 - Utilities**

**POSITION DESCRIPTION:**

- Provides general unskilled and semi-skilled labor in the maintenance and construction of water and sewer utilities.

- Assists in the installation and maintenance of water lines, sewer lines, utility service lines, valves, fire hydrants, manholes and water meters.

- May operate associated equipment, such as air compressors, jackhammers, rock drills and similar equipment.

- May operate sewer vacuum/flushing equipment, sewer inspection and video equipment, boring machines, dump trucks, backhoes, tractors and similar equipment.

- May handle explosives.

- May locate and mark underground utilities.

- Works overtime as required and serves on 24-hour on-call rotation.

- Performs other related duties as required.

**SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:**

- High school diploma or GED required, with some water and/or sewer maintenance experience preferred or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.

- Ability to utilize descriptive data and information such as regulations, blue prints, correspondence and general operating manuals.

- Ability to exert moderate to heavy physical stress in an outdoor utility maintenance and heavy construction environment.

- Must possess a valid driver's license.
