General Description
The City of Madison Streets Division is looking for their next Street and Sewer Maintenance Worker 2. This is semi-skilled work in the general maintenance and repair of public facilities and equipment. This position performs a considerable amount of cutting and welding.
This position is regularly scheduled for 40 hours per week. Regular work hours for this position will be Monday through Friday, 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
Employees may be eligible for loan forgiveness through thePublic Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance and Repair
- Perform maintenance and repairs to snow and ice equipment, street repair equipment, refuse equipment, recycling equipment, and brush equipment.
Building Maintenance and Repair
- Perform maintenance and repairs to buildings.
Perform other related work and duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Three (3) years of experience in performing semi-skilled mechanical or building trades maintenance tasks.
- OR-
- Two (2) years experience in applying the following:
- Types and uses of tools, materials, methods, and practices used in general maintenance and repair work.
- Welding principles and practices.
Depending on the number of qualified applicants, random selection may be used to determine who moves forward in the process.

Special Requirements
Must maintain an acceptance rate of 50% or better on all snow and ice overtime shifts offered.
Must maintain adequate attendance.
Possession of a valid Class A Wisconsin Commercial Driver's License with N (Tanker) endorsement. The successful candidate must have passed the written portion of the relevant Department of Transportation testing process before starting employment. A condition of continued employment is passage of the skills portion of the test and obtaining the required operator's license within 45 days of employment.
Physical Requirements:
Employees in this position must be able to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time often in adverse weather conditions.
