Position Information:
UC Riverside's Transportation and Parking Services is recruiting for a Senior Building Maintenance Worker. The full salary range for the Senior Building Maintenance Worker is $24.13 - $31.84 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

The Senior Building Maintenance Worker (SBMW) assists with the performance of maintenance and beautification services in and around Transportation Services facilities. Incumbent will complete maintenance work in campus parking lots, information kiosks, department buildings, and shuttle stops on and around the campus. May instruct and train unskilled assistants. Performs a wide variety of special projects including furniture and equipment moves, preparation for installation of outdoor signage, underground pipe, and equipment, routine organizing and cleaning of storage facilities. Performs repairs on equipment such as gasoline powered pressure washers, similar power equipment. Assists in selected portions of overall larger projects as related to SBMW position scope. Provides assistance to Skilled Crafts staff to move mechanical equipment, change filters, and perform other non-trades level support functions. Performs and assists with performing preventive maintenance work. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs, reconditions tools and equipment used in the performance of maintenance and special projects work. Performs hands-on maintenance work on facilities and equipment at SBMW level. Performs work according to unit priorities as established by the supervisor. Provide customer service and support to all members of the campus community as related to the operations of Transportation Services including providing details on campus access and parking rules and regulations, campus events, and provide support for the operation of physical and online parking fee payment systems. Assists with responding to emergency situations to mitigate and/or resolve immediate facility maintenance concerns or safety issues. Performs all job duties in adherence with university and departmental safety guidelines. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, residents and guests.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

  • 2 years of experience in the performance of semi-skilled building maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Skill in operating shop equipment and tools common to the various skilled trade.
  • Ability to work independently, as a part of a regular maintenance crew, or as an assistant to skilled tradesmen.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public, and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled and/or planned maintenance tasks, projects, and assignments, such as replacing filters, lamps, framing, concrete, furniture repairs, hardware repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and understand safety regulations and hazards.
  • Ability to perform minor routine maintenance including taking meter readings, changing out filters, lamps, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Knowledge in safe and proper procedures when hazardous materials are suspected.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge and technical skills with computer programs and applications. (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to estimate time, methods and materials needed from construction documents. Ability read and understand documents such as complex technical procedures, work instructions, blue prints, plans, manuals, specifications and diagrams.

  • General Maintenance: Perform a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in the maintenance, alteration and repair of buildings and related facilities and equipment. Perform rough concrete and carpentry work. Perform minor installation of fire extinguishers, wipe boards, door handles, coat hooks and office equipment. Replace faulty electrical fixtures such as fuses, sockets and switches, and make minor wiring repairs. Remove and replace plumbing fixtures such as faucets, shower heads, and sprinkler heads. Clean roof, parking lot and patio drains and clear stoppages in sinks and toilets. Perform minor painting projects. Replace HVAC filters and belts. Install parking and directional signage. Clean, adjust, lubricate, or replace door closers, locks, patches, hinges and other building hardware. Make minor repairs to office furniture and equipment. Make repairs to automated fences and gates including but not limited to belts, motors, controllers, RF receivers and card readers. Operate and maintain a variety of power and hand tools of the various trades. Stripe parking lots, paint curbs and stencil reserved spaces. Replace light bulbs and ballasts. Monitor elevators and related pieces of equipment to ensure all functioning in a safe manner. Performs custodial and preventative maintenance duties within transportation facilities, including flooring, cleaning up spills, windows, window ledges, and related. Collects litter and disposes of debris throughout the campus.

  • Field Equipment: As assigned, complete daily inspections and perform preventative maintenance and repairs on parking fee collection equipment, automated gates and bollards, compacting waste collection bins, tire inflation and bicycle repair stations, and other similar equipment. Respond to customer complaints on parking fee collection equipment and resolve problems in a timely manner. Ensure continued and non-interrupted operation of equipment for customers at all times.

  • Department Support: Provides operational support for Transportation & Parking Services and Fleet Services which may include some of the following functions: participates in the development and implementation of the department's mission, goals, and strategic planning; assists in the review of operations and services to identify operational efficiencies and integrate 'best practices'; coordinates and/or participates in special projects and assignments, the scope of which may extend beyond day-to-day operations.

  • Callbox Operations: As assigned, assist in the inspection, testing, cleaning, and repairs of the campus outdoor emergency callbox system.

  • Bicycles/Scooters: Use basic power tools to cut bicycle locks for verified owners or as needed to maintain safe operational access to university facilities. Complete bicycles impound documents and notifications immediately. Securely store impounded bicycles for later recovery by verified owners. Install, clean and adjust; bicycle racks, bicycle maintenance equipment and storage areas.
