DEFINITION To perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled, heavy-manual street, grounds and landscaping, and building maintenance work.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
MWII: perform skilled and semi-skilled work in maintenance and repair of streets, sewers, and public facilities. This class differs from Maintenance Worker I in that the Maintenance Worker I performs semi-skilled work and is consider basic entry level.
Qualifications MAINTENANCE WORKER I
Education, and Experience: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, proficiency in English speaking, reading and writing and basic math skills.
Experience: None
MAINTENANCE WORKER II
Education, and Experience
Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, proficiency in English speaking, reading and writing and basic math skills.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of streets, sewers, parks or public facilities or related fields.
License or Certificate:
- Possession of a valid California State Driver's license, and a safe driving record.
- As a condition of employment in some designated positions, possession of a valid State of California Class A or B drivers license with applicable endorsement may be required in the performance of job duties.

The employee must be able to lift and/or move a minimum of 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job classification include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS
The employee will likely work near moving vehicles and/or mechanical parts; in high and/or precarious places; and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold or heat and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
