Boulder County Public Works Department is seeking to hire aBuilding Services Maintenance Worker II. The Building Services Maintenance Worker II is the journey level in the maintenance series. The Building Services Maintenance Worker II performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties, requiring independent judgment and thorough knowledge of departmental operations, in the development and maintenance of county buildings and grounds.

This is a full-time, benefited position. This position will workMonday - Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm. This position will work at2525 13th StreetBoulderCO. 80306. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt.

Boulder County requires its employees toresidein the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Hiring Salary Range: $56,664.00 - $69,198.00 Annually

Examples of Duties

  • Performs routine repairs and maintenance of large commercial buildings and equipment, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, light carpentry and grounds.
  • Performs repair and preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment, including boilers, chillers, air handler units and related equipment.
  • Performs snow removal at assigned site.
  • Monitors building control system to insure systems are operating properly and efficiently as possible.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of hand tools, power tools and equipment.
  • Trains and gives general direction to other employees.
  • Participates in rotating on-call.
  • May be required to respond to emergencies, during and after work hours
  • Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking forwell qualifiedcandidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum ofa high school diploma, or equivalent and at least two years of large commercial building maintenance experience, including: preventive maintenance, trouble shooting and repairs of HVAC, boiler, chiller, plumbing, electrical systems, light carpentry work and oversight of grounds/landscape maintenance

  • Knowledge of the use of materials, equipment and procedures necessary for maintaining large commercial buildings and landscape
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to large commercial buildings and landscape maintenance
  • Thorough knowledge of County and department values, policy and procedures
  • Ability to work effectively with other employees, agencies and the public
  • Ability to perform assigned duties independently without close supervision
  • Skilled in diagnosing/troubleshooting and repairing equipment associated with large commercial buildings
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time and in all kinds of weather

Back and Upper Body (lifting)

Frequently lift 1-10 lb. tools and materials above head.

Frequently lift from floor to waist with one hand 10-50 lb. power tools, equipment, and supplies. Occasionally lift 100 lb. bags of ice melt with another employee (two man lift) from chest height to floor or the reverse.

Occasionally lift items weighing 40-100 lbs.

Operate large power equipment weighing 100 lbs. or more.

Hands/Arms

Occasional plumbing work necessitates working with large 25 lb. wrenches, which requires lifting from floor to waist height with two hands.

Frequently grip, twist, pull, push, lift, swing and operate a variety of hand tools, power tools and equipment.

Use finger dexterity to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator and operate tools and equipment.

Body Movement

Constant walking and stair climbing.

Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, standing, and working from ladders on heights from 4-12 ft. in height.

Frequently handle shovels; 20 lb. pry bars, and 8 lb. sledgehammers.

Occasional shoveling, pushing, pulling and working from ladders, scaffolding or lift equipment 12 ft. high or higher.

Frequently work with hands and arms reaching overhead.

Vision

Must be able to read printed materials and a computer screen.

Must have the ability to differentiate wires and other items by color.

Hearing and Speech

Must be able to communicate in person, over the telephone and/or by two-way radio.
