Global Logistics Support Services, (GLSS), an S Inc. company, has an immediate opening for an Aircraft Mechanic I to support ongoing projects at Ft. Johnson, LA.

Military experience is a plus.

Position Description:

The Aircraft Mechanic I repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components, including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills. Reads and interprets manufacturers' and airlines' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.

Responsibilities:

  • Work involves replacing or repairing worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine-mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
  • Removing the engine from the aircraft, using a hoist or forklift truck, disassembling and inspecting parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repairing or replacing defective engine parts and reassembling and installing the engine in the aircraft.
  • Requires that this mechanic adjust, repair, or replace the electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories, perform preflight, thru-flight, and postflight maintenance inspections.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
  • Supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft, enters in the maintenance records a description of the work performed, and verifies that the work was performed satisfactorily.
  • Service engines and airframe components at the line station, making repairs, short of overhaul, are required to keep aircraft in a safe operating condition.
  • Specializing in work, repair, and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, and specializing in engine repair.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A&P License or a Military Service School Certificate of Training in Aviation Maintenance is desirable.
  • Must have a combination of two or more years of experience in repairing engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions.
  • Must have two or more years of experience in troubleshooting malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
  • (1) Qualified Flight Mechanic w/over 150 hours experience as a Flight Mechanic/Crew Chief and have been qualified or trained in that capacity during military service and (2) Be able to pass FAA 3rd Class or Military Class III flight physical.
