Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, performs skilled work at the journeyman level in several trade or craft areas in maintaining hospital buildings, equipment and grounds. Must be a self-starter able to work independently from written or oral instructions.
At this level, incumbents must have a basic knowledge of all BRH building systems as well as all equipment used to complete assigned tasks, establishing and carrying out repair and preventative maintenance schedules. In addition, they are required to be available to work "On Call" off duty hours, weekends and holidays to meet emergency, winter snow removal and seasonal job demands.
Minimum Qualifications for the Job:
Education: High School diploma or the equivalent.
Note: Completion of an accredited trade or vocational school with courses in mathematics, blue print reading and mechanical drawing preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years of maintenance experience in one or more trade or craft areas is required. One (1) year must have been at the Maintenance Mechanic I level at Bartlett Regional Hospital or equivalent elsewhere. This experience may have included: Boilers, engines, HVAC, biomedical and other complex equipment; and skill in soldering and brazing.
Note: Advanced knowledge of building maintenance techniques, equipment and operation of plumbing and HVAC systems; sanitation, refrigeration, electrical systems; fire and safety regulations and procedures is preferred. Arc and oxygen/acetylene welding skills preferred.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid Alaska Driver's License at time of appointment and for continued employment.
Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
External Hires: This position starts at $30.63 per hour. Step placement and rate of pay will be determined based upon relevant experience.
