Application POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the assigned Crew Leader, performs duties to include laying water lines, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater lines and taps, manholes, valves, setting and maintenance of fire hydrants. This position will also be responsible for conducting various street repairs as needed.
Qualifications:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Works effectively with other employees to repair or replace water and wastewater service lines, or mains.
Works as part of a crew, or alone while laying lines, maintaining, and repairing water and wastewater lines, and conducting street repairs.
Receives verbal or written work orders or complaints and checks the problems accordingly.
Frequently uses small hand tools and equipment.
Drives and operates various equipment to and from sites (dump trucks, sewer machine, backhoe, etc.)
Unstops sanitary sewer lines.
Makes water and wastewater taps.
Loads and unloads material and equipment.
Installs two-way clean-outs in sewer service lines.
Installs and repairs fire hydrants.
Sets up barricades when required to protect the public.
Responsible for vehicles and equipment used in the performance job duties; ensures that any vehicle and equipment issued to them is properly maintained; conducts daily preventative checks and if a repair is warranted takes the necessary steps to have the property repaired.
Writes various reports by hand and by utilizing a computer or mobile device.
Notifies the public of interruption of services.
May serve as Crew Leader in their absence when necessary and directed.
Responds to complaints regarding functional areas such as street conditions, street signs, wastewater system problems, traffic signals, street lighting, water leaks, pressure loss, or no water; evaluates the situation and explains findings to supervisor.
Resurfaces, repairs, or patches roadways with hot asphalt or cold patch
Breaks up/fragments and removes pavement and sidewalks using pneumatic tools; installs and stripes curbs or speed humps.
Installs and maintains road signs.
Removes ice and snow from public roadways, sidewalks, and City facilities parking lots
Will be required to work holidays, evenings, and weekends as needed.
Subject to after-hours call-out for emergency situations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of all safety aspects regarding equipment used to complete assigned tasks.
Knowledge in the use of all tools and equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks.
Skilled in completing projects safely and efficiently.
Ability to use basic hand tools in the performance of the job.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with other employees.
Must possess a willingness to learn and the ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to read simple maps and drawings, pick up trash, keeps storage areas clean, orderly, and in safe working conditions
Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment in the field or as directed.
Ability to work under adverse weather conditions.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND SAFETY HAZARDS
Primarily in an outdoor environment with the ability to operate indoors when needed. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during the summer and winter months.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Uses small hand tools including but not limited to, various types of saws, vibrator compactors, tapping machines, pickax, shovels, rakes, air compressors, jackhammers, cutting torch, and various weights of hammers, while using proper safety precautions; may operate heavy equipment under supervision.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS
High school graduate or equivalent or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and Motor Vehicle Report check.
Must obtain a Class D Water or Wastewater license within one (1) year of hire.
Must obtain a Class C Groundwater Production License Certification issued by the TCEQ within thirty-six (36) months of employment.
A Valid Class C Texas motor vehicle driver's license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Texas Class B CDL within twelve (12) months of employment.
