Overview**
Telecommunications Mechanic II (KCVC-2025-22983):
Bowhead seeks to network with a Telecommunications Mechanic II for an upcoming proposal effort to support the integration, inspection, and documentation of outside plant (OSP) communications infrastructure at McConnell AFB and Smoky Hill ANG Range. This role requires hands-on field work, advanced technical knowledge, and the ability to independently execute GPS surveys, troubleshoot discrepancies, and update the Cyberspace Infrastructure Planning System Visualization Component (CVC).
**Responsibilities**
Job duties to include but not limited to:
+ Lead and perform detailed field inspections of manholes, hand-holes, vaults, pedestals, building terminals, and patch panels.
+ Identify, tag, and document copper and fiber optic cables, splice points, ducts, and pathway components according to Air Force standards.
+ Operate GPS and electronic cable location equipment to collect geospatial data; convert to ESRI-compatible shape files and input into CVC.
+ Review and reconcile discrepancies between field data and legacy telecom drawings or government records.
+ Prepare and maintain color-coded field drawings and CVC updates with high accuracy and conformance to documentation standards.
+ Interface with government personnel for coordination, issue resolution, and progress demonstrations at multiple project milestones.
+ Adhere to all confined space entry requirements and ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and OPSEC policies.
+ Support remediation and infrastructure upgrade recommendations based on inspection results.
+ Other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**
+ Education
+ High school diploma or GED required.
+ Technical certification or formal training in telecommunications systems, fiber/copper infrastructure, or GIS preferred.
+ Years of experience
+ Minimum **4 years of relevant experience** in telecommunications infrastructure, with at least **2 years in outside plant environments** .
+ Prior experience working on military installations or with CVC/CIPS systems is highly desirable.
+ Required skills or certifications
+ Comptia Security+ Certified (IAT II Cert required.)
+ Strong working knowledge of copper and fiber telecommunications systems, cabling standards, and field testing tools.
+ Proficient with GPS surveying tools, cable locators, and GIS data collection and formatting (e.g., ESRI Shape files).
+ Familiar with ANSI/TIA/EIA-606-A labeling standards and CVC Editor web tool operations.
+ Understanding of OSHA safety standards for confined space and manhole entry.
+ Ability to interpret telecom plans, perform quality control inspections, and lead field tasks with minimal supervision.
+ Must be a U.S. Citizen and pass a Tier 1 background investigation for CAC access.
+ Valid REAL ID-compliant drivers license.
+ Preferred: Completed CVC training or prior access/experience with the system.
+ Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
+ Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
+ Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
Physical Demands:
+ Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
+ Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
+ Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
