Highway Maintenance Worker IV Crew Foreman (61036802)

At Kershaw Maintenance, supervises a crew of skilled and semi-skilled Highway Maintenance Workers on the Work Request Crew that are involved in a variety of maintenance activities such as patching potholes, clearing right of way, cleaning ditches and drainage pipes, and installing driveways. Supervise the inmate crew and the picking up of litter along highway right-of-way. Stay abreast of guidelines, rules and procedures. Maintain record of work performed. Investigates, recommends and/or takes corrective action in connection with damage to SCDOT or private property, which are complex in nature. Completes work request from the general public in reference to drainage problems and needs on the highway right of way. Maintains weekly and monthly reports, time sheets and cost records; recommends personnel actions including promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measurers; rates employee yearly according to the Employee Performance Management System. Maintains all paperwork and reports (HMMS) that are essential to the department. Responsible for working as On-Call Foreman for 7 to 8 weeks during the year. Supervises and coordinates crew in the removal of snow and ice from roadways and storm damage. Three and one-half (3.5) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operators license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
