Maintenance Mechanic

This is a Senior level position responsible for the oversight of prisoner crews. This position supervises inmate crews to assist in addressing mechanical maintenance problems throughout the Facility, including repairs and installation of necessary equipment for the physical plant and preventative maintenance of equipment for the physical plant. The Maintenance Mechanic is required to order parts, maintain property record keeping, policy reviews to ensure compliance and ensure hazardous material control.

Education
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience
Five years of experience assisting skilled trades workers in the mechanical or electrical trades, including one year equivalent to a Maintenance Mechanic E9.

Completion of a recognized program in vocational training for the mechanical or electrical trades may be substituted for two years of experience assisting skilled trades workers.

New hires to the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC), along with former MDOC employees, returning after being away from the department for more than two years, will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET), either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training at their facility to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
