Description

The Department of Criminal Justice is currently seeking Facility Maintenance Supervisor II for the Richmond training complex and grounds. This position will work along other Facility team members ensuring the general maintenance, cleanliness and safety for all for The Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) buildings.

Responsibilities:

  • Receives, evaluates, and responds to facility-related maintenance needs across all DOCJT buildings and grounds including issues related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, construction, and general repair. Assigns maintenance personnel or performs repair when the issue is within in-house capabilities or coordinates with external contractors or service providers as needed. Supervises, inspects and verifies maintenance work performed by members of the DOCJT facilities section, contracting staff, and contract services. Approves time and conducts performance evaluations for facility personnel.
  • Documents repairs and requests for assistance provided to staff and students. Uses email services and the facilities maintenance tracking program. Ensures timely, safe, and appropriate response to all reported issues and tracks completion of work.
  • Maintains specific inventory accountability for all general repair parts used in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and construction-related repairs. Researches various resources to obtain necessary materials. Tracks usage, monitor stock levels, and ensure availability of critical items. Researches vendors and various resources to obtain materials in a cost-effective and timely manner.
  • Manages and maintains accountability for all facility keys assigned to agency personnel. Ensures accurate tracking, proper issuance, and timely retrieval of keys to support security and access control across all DOCJT buildings. Assigns keys based on operational needs and maintain up-to-date records in accordance with agency procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing and electrical
  • Experience overseeing maintenance operations and coordinating repair projects
  • Ability to maintain detailed records and service documentation
  • Supervisory experience, including conducting performance evaluations
  • Inventory and equipment management skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with technology used for work order tracking and documentation

Additional Skills:

  • Maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Lift heavy objects or work in uncomfortable environments for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently communicate in person or by other means of technology
  • Spend portion of time using computer.
  • May work overtime or alternate work schedules.

A background check is required. Final job offer is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation. In compliance with Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agency, a standard 5.28 physical exam will be required after initial offer of employment.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: High school graduate

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have five years of building maintenance, grounds maintenance, general trades, skilled trades, moving services or mechanical maintenance experience. Some of the required experience must include both records keeping experience and limited or full responsibility for work of others.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions

Incumbents in this job title may be exposed to extreme temperatures which requires the following of safety procedures. Will be on call 24 hours a day.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
