Primary Purpose PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION Perform duties related to the construction, maintenance and service of energized facilities in all phases of Underground transmission and distribution. This includes new, scheduled, routine maintenance, and emergency work. Employees will start at a 2nd class rate and title with a 6-month progression until final testing. Employees will be placed through the PECO system based on business needs to complete the 6-month progression to become a 1st Class. Permanent placement in the undergound will fall under the guidelines of the CBA. Primary Duties Major Accountabilities: Responsibilities are related to the construction, maintenance and service of energized facilities in all phases of transmission and distribution equipment. Work includes work out of aerial equipment; work in confined and enclosed spaces and outside under all weather conditions; operation of various types of mechanized equipment and vehicles, and work on energized electrical equipment. Required to work emergency and storm situations and must be available for overtime and shift work. Required to perform glove-hand work as scheduled. First class mechanics may work alone or be assigned to work with other splicers of lower classifications without the direct supervision of a higher-level classification. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Experience demonstrating skills performing construction and maintenance work on overhead and underground dead or energized conductors, structures, and equipment. Experience demonstrating skills installing, testing, and maintaining electrical equipment (for example, regulators, reclosures, capacitors, transformers, electric meters). Experience demonstrating skill performing load and voltage tests on conductors and equipment. Knowledge of fundamentals of electricity related to construction, maintenance and operation of distribution and transmission lines and equipment. Experience demonstrating skill installing and maintaining underground and overhead electrical systems. Ability to work with molten solder, compounds, and all elements of cable splicing including performing work at heights of a ladder or from an aerial lift device Experience demonstrating skill performing switching, grounding and tagging procedures. Experience demonstrating skills operating: Construction equipment such as, but not limited to, aerial lifts, underground trucks, rigging, digger derricks, cranes, trenchers, backhoes, shovels, puller tensioners, tracked vehicles, forklifts, cable locating and electrical test equipment, and hand and power tools. Experience demonstrating skill directing/training others. Ability and willingness to work All Voltages. Ability and willingness to work in and be respirator fit tested/qualified and to maintain safe weight requirements Ability and willingness to work in a variety of work environments including outdoors in all weather conditions, on or around energized electrical equipment, in confined spaces, underground and in noisy and dirty environments with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Ability and willingness to perform physically challenging tasks for extended periods of time (for example, entering/exiting manholes, scaffolding, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pulling/pushing, standing, walking, and squatting). Ability and willingness to work at various locations, based on business need as required. Ability and willingness to work overtime, alternative/various shifts, holidays, and weekends as required. Ability and willingness to comply with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations of the U.S. Department of Transportation (for example, substance abuse testing, satisfactory driving record). Ability and willingness to adhere to federal, state, local and company safety regulations in addition to PECO policies and value Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/ CPR certifications as provided by the company. Must live a reasonable distance from the District Office. Must pass qualification tests. Possess a Valid Driver's license with ability to obtain a CDL "A" Driver's License within the first 3 months of hire date. Employee to maintain a clean driver qualification file. Must be able to pass pre-employment drug/alcohol test(s), background check(s) and physicals Must successfully pass a Criminal History Background Check. Must successfully pass Medical Screening to include a Drug Test. Preferred Qualifications Preferred: Successful completion of a recognized Line Workers Apprenticeship and is currently at a Journeyman/1st Class level and/or possesses a Journeyman Level Card. Successful completion of a recognized Underground Splicing Apprenticeship Certification from the National Cable Splicing Program (NCSCB) CDL "A" Drivers License Benefits Benefits Annual salary will vary based on a candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $46.68/Yr. - $/Yr.
