Garage Mechanic Job Description The Garage Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance, service, and repair of diesel/gas-powered trucks and equipment. This role requires the execution of all duties of a skilled mechanic, either in the shop or in the field. Responsibilities Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, and air systems on vehicles and equipment. Ensure the engine and other vital parts are in proper operating condition. Utilize hand tools and power tools, such as pneumatic wrenches, cordless tools, welding equipment, and hoists. Examine and adjust protective guards and specified safety devices. Perform routine maintenance including changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery. Test drive trucks and heavy equipment to diagnose malfunctions or ensure proper operation. Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications. Diagnose malfunctions in defective equipment using test instruments like multimeters, schematics, or pressure gauges. Repair or replace wiring, lights, and instrument panels. Diagnose and repair vehicle heating and cooling systems. Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Skills Proficiency in mechanical, hydraulic, and diesel systems. Ability to inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, and air systems on vehicles and equipment. Skilled in using both hand tools and power tools, such as pneumatic wrenches, cordless tools, welding equipment, and hoists. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in facilities maintenance.
